I think we're getting to the bottom of it...
H(high range) is a big no no on steep hills with or without a load behind it!!
Sounds like the main problem in this case may be in between the seat and the steering wheel.
x2x2 for reading the owners manual!!

And 'R' stands for 'Race'. Good grief, read your manual. Philip.

OK ok ok I can screw with the best of you as you screw with MY thread.
In low yes "L" on the range finder.

It's way underpowered and most likely will get a boost somehow.

Really folks what I need for input would be help properly sizing a turbo not turning this into a "should he do it or not" thread. Should I use an intercooler? Do I need different injectors?
The S-160 engine is 60 hp. I might be happy with 50. I have a 75 inch rear mount snoblower that most likely will put a damper on my fun this winter.

There's some good diesel guys on this forum who could shoot me some ideas. The warranty issues and ifs or buts are my problem.
I have tig welder and tools, lathe, milling machine whatever it takes. What I LACK is proper education to size the turbine.

Thanks, Fred

I think I gave you good information to get started, I cannot design system for you. I even found you a turbocharged L3940 2.0 liter engine. You are welcome for that, even though I get no thanks, just your promise to screw with me (I don't like sound of that). You need lower compression pistons, oil cooler, larger radiator, turbocharger, exhaust manifold, intake manifold. Get a parts manual for the engine I referenced, and buy those parts, or equivelent. Want me to source part numbers for you or make drawings? Not gonna happen. Get the radiator and oil cooler off the L5740. Remember what I said, the L5740 has larger grill openings. You are getting good advise here, with experience. Sell the L3940 and buy a hardly used L5740. In the long run, I believe you would have fewer problems, save lots of time and money, and be better off. Or, just get a 26hp 2300# Cub Cadet 7260, pull an 8' leveler up a STEEP HILL behind it, and see how it does. Sorry, but you bought too small, not tractors fault. Good luck. Philip.

why don't you just put a turbo on your Cub 7260 since it already is far superior than your L3940

you must not be like allot of people on this forum since you just have money to burn

You will have to turn up the fuel pump unless the turbo is just set to break even. If you don't it will damage your engine.

Horse Feathers. Adding a turbo alone without dialling up the fuel will not damage the engine. Full power fuel efficiency will suffer some however with the extra unused air cooling the combustion chamber.

Turbo charging is an option but you must realize that you will not bring it up to the hp of a L5740 as an example. If it was my project I would go buy the pieces from Kubota. That way all the manifolds are correct and oil lies and air ducting. But it won't be cheap and the gain will not be enough for you to be satisfied. Also turboed engines have oil cooled pistons and other up grades. Best advice is buy the bigger tractor.

Lets see. A two ton dry weight tractor. Loaded down with fuel, ballast, loader and operator. 38HP and a hydrostatic engine. Don't be too surprised at it's performance on high draft loads on hills.
As with others I'm concerned that the operator's manual has not been opened and read.
A TI 2.0L at 2800rpm maxes out at approx 60-80HP depending on how well the components are matched and tuned. If the engine was turbo built to begin with.
Trade the Kubota for a 4105 Deere
