Snow Turf or Ags on asphalt for snow?

don't think the ags will help u. have used ags with the old ford 2n , needed chains as the back end was so light because of the weight of the fel. snow on ashphalt is not a problem with clogging up the threads, it is a matter or weight(mass) and power. my b 2400 with 4wd no chains and not loaded has moved all kinds of snow, doe is slip ? yep. bu ti just take a smaller bite and keep workin. ags would not help. i use the fel for 90% of snow removal and the BB for the rest. and we do get a lot of heay deep snow up here. will post a few pics from last years storms, all taken care of with b2400, R4 tires(not loaded) and no chains. u make the call

Now rest assured, the R4's will work in dirt also see attachment. all types of tires will work better than others in certain situations, no one tire is best for all, but for me R4's rule.

If your place is flat you may get along without chains ok. But they make a huge positive difference if you have any slopes. I have found that chains don't mark my asphalt - bu they do leave marks on the concrete garage floor. One year we had a lot of ice. Chains made the difference between moving and not moving.

I have both and switch to ags in the winter ( I have a BX2200). I plow some sloped areas and the Ags dig in well. turfs slipped like crazy on the slopes (I had just turfs the first winter). Even the ags will slip on ice, but they just slip a little. every time a new bar hits, you get a new chance for traction. Works good. Ags are cheap for the BX. I paid less than $300 mounted on wheels.

Curious Rogue, did you get ags for the front also, or just the rear? And did you get them via a dealer or ????

Frank, Art, Dick, Rogue, and all the rest of you: Thanks for the advice. I went and talked to my dealer, he is convinced I just need to add some weight. He said the Ags are a waste of money on my flat gound and even talked me out of filling the rears with CaCl. He has some used weights he's gonna sell me cheap that'll go in the rear wheels and I think I'll buy a set of chains "just in case" of emergencies (like 3' of snow). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I will probably get tarred and feathered for this if your dealer hears it, but I think that you would be better off with the filled tires rather than the weights. I have used wheel weights and now have filled tires. There is no comparison to a 104 # of fill in a tire to the 55 # of iron weights. I was quoted $3 a gallon for beet juice (rim guard) and it takes 6 gallons to fill your tires... That is $18 per tire. How much are you going to spend on the weights? The filled tires are a better deal. If you decide to go with the weights, the bolt pattern is the same for all 12" rim weights and you can find a wide choice of them.... from cast iron to plastic covered cement. Just my opinion..... from experiance....
