Hello,
I have one turnbuckle on by B7500 that is extremely hard to turn. I've used WD-40, grease, even paint remover but nothing works. Could it be cross-threaded?
Any ideas on how to free it?
Thanks,
-Terry

I used to have that problem before taking them(turnbuckles) off and going to the telescope system. You might want to take off the whole assembly and see if one of the screw assemblies is bent.....

If you take it a part and it is not cross threaded, get some valve grinding compound from a parts store and put on it. Work it really good with the compound on the threads and then take it apart again and wash it. That will give you the clearance you need to adjust them easily.

Terry,
I had the same problem with mine. WD40 just didn't do it. I tried grease and it still didn't do it. Then I tried some Slick 50 - 1 Spray Oil and they have worked great ever since. I am really impressed with that stuff. I used it on my ROPS pins and they spin freely now as well. I have been using it for about 6 months and am amazed at how long it lasts and how freely all the threads turn.

If they are completely stuck, you can spray them good and turn the turnbuckles with a screw driver through the middle. That was the only way I could get mine to turn before I started using the Slick 50.

Hope this helps.

Greg,
and all....thanks for the replies. A screw driver or crescent wrench is the only way I can turn it. Never by hand. I will definite try "slick 50". I hope it works.

Terry,
Right after I posted about Slick 50 loosening my turnbuckle, mine started to stiffen up again. Last weekend when I was using my BH I felt a "KaThunk" that was more than just the top pin working. I got off and inspected everything and all looked well. This morning I dropped my BH to get a pallet of firewood and when I went to tighten my turnbuckle, I saw that it had actually slipped it's threads, about halfway off. I inspected the whole assembly and found that the tractor side of the threads were significantly worn. I called my dealer and he is going to send me a whole new assembly. He didn't know if warranty would cover it, but he was going to go after it for me. So.... I would suggest that you clean your threads a do a close inspection to see if you are having the same problem I just experienced. Better to replace before they break. I am without a tractor this weekend..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thought I'd Share,

I just yesterday replace the whole right side turn buckle assembly on my B7800. Last weekend I went to get the blade off and put the rake on. The turnbuckle was so hard to turn, I ended up turning it off with a screw driver.

I replaced both bolts and got a new turnbuckle too. The bolts looked stripped, and the turnbuckle nut didn't look circular anymore.

Must have had a shift or stress on the blade.

Anyway, if they don't turn easily, replace them. I think it was less than 60 bucks for all three parts......

HTH.

Spend $100 or so and a couple hours and do a conversion and get rid of those darn turnbuckles. The smartest thing I've done since buying the tractor.

Bo,
What did you use to convert yours?

Bo,
I have looked at that, but I am concerned about not being able to "snug" up the swaybars with the backhoe. They really need to be tight, otherwise it will work the 3pt. pretty hard. Does anybody have any experience with this conversion and a BH? Maybe it's not as big of a deal as I think.
