I'll start by thanking HomeBrew2 for his insperation /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif all of the TBN boys.

This one is a bolts on, no welding on boom (just like HomeBrew2), the only difference it folds.

Thaks again /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

HEY ALL,
run some of them wear surface rods, over the teeth to toughen them up,didnt come out too bad,for my first time using them.temp range on the box said 118-160 amp.I found they didnt work good unless i was at least 150amp.They didnt light, good,or want to stay lit any lower.I got a nice thin coating welded on.I was told by a welder dont put it on to thick, and the box said so too.It said run a different rod first,to fill any deep voids, and go over it with the wear surface ones.
One safety note they snap crackle and pop, after your done a piece flew in my eye when i lifted my helmet,im ok

very nicely done! ... for a DIY project you are going all out and I give a big THUMBS UP!

   / TWIDDLING MY THUMB #37
DANG!, that doesn't even look like you did anything! Nice job! Last time I tried it it didn't want to stay lit and I just used it like old crappy rod ... I got an old looking crappy job ... but it did work. I'll sure try more heat next time. Was your rod for AC & DC but recommended DC? That's what mine is and I figgered AC just didn't work good at all. Do you have a DC welder? .
Cheers!

HOME BREW ,
The box says 5/32 supercote hardfacing#42401[FORNEY rods] can be used ac/dc.I used my old ac lincoln 225 tombstone, its a good old welder.I had a chance to buy a ac/dc,recently,i passed,im saving for a plasma cutter.
Believe it or not,i stopped in a small town country store, for coffee, and in the back was a whole room full of welding supplys, rods ,steel, everything.I paid 3.39 for10 of these rods,i only used 4.Ill be stopping there more often

Well ups finally got my belts here, and now im a drilling fool!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif BOY,ITS TAKING A LONG TIME.The bit is cutting well, but you cant use any down pressure,or it stops. That mini craftsman 1/2 hp is way too small for this job[i see a new press in my future].I could take it to work, but when my shift gets over,i want out of there! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gifIll peck away at it.Its a bear finishing that last little bit[NO PUN INTENDED],it binds right up quick.Have patience folks,i havent quit yet. After i got the thumb arms drilled, i assembled a pin,and starting putting it togeather,it looks awsome, ill get some pics of the unpainted thumb setup on the workbench, when im done drilling all the parts. the cutting oil, makes a freakin mess,my boots are covered /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
