TYM to buy Kukje

They bought it to get an "in house" engine plant...and they bought it MUCH cheaper than building one of their own...

Exactly. TYM hasn't weathered the Tier IV transition well. They have super nice product, but haven't been able to compete with sub-65hp tractors, save for the 254. Here is my theory (as a dealer for both brands):

  • TYM really needs an American sounding brand name. Something more attractive to American buyers than "TYM".
  • TYM needs to be able to make their own engine. Going to a competitor (Yanmar) is not a long-term viable option as Yanmar is WAY overpriced anyway.
  • TYM needs a good sub-65hp lineup to offer the rural lifestyle market and Branson was ripe for the picking
  • This will make TYM the OEM behind TYM, Branson, Cabela's, Mahindra, McCormick (some), Zetor (some), and John Deere (some) tractors.
  • TYM sees the writing on the wall on the Mahindra deal....Mahindra needs them less and less by the day, and is reportedly trying to buy the rest of Mitsubishi Machinery.

I see this playing out where the TYM brand goes away in America and the TYM/Branson lineup gets homogenized, mostly toward the Branson compact models with TYM models for utility platforms. All will likely be sold under the Branson name. We shall see!

TYM makes a lot of tractors for Mahindra, the E-max( popular), 2500 series ( which is very popular) and the M-Force. Does Mitsubishi make a 100+ hp tractor to replace the M-Force?

They make some utilities. I seriously doubt Mahindra sells very many 80-100hp tractors. Most production ag guys and gals still view Mahindra as a "tier 2" brand.

Mahindra seems to do fine and are constantly growing. The company isn't going anywhere and is popular throughout the world. Change is difficult and not taken easily.

I don't think they sell a lot, but they sell some. How do the larger TYM's sell down ther in Texas?

They do alright. They're a great value right now, compared to the other guys.
