took to neighbor, said it was hickory. i looked online and didnt find any looking similar.

tree is one of 15 that blew down last year, im finally pulling some out to burn or maybe salvage

It's going to be hard to tell, as the leaves aren't fully developed. Try also posting some pictures of the trunk, and also some buds if you can.

its been laying on ground for over a year. partial rootball connected to ground. i cut it from rootball so might not develop much more (?)

during week, ill try for another picture of bark and wood.

i think the wood was very evenly colored (whiteish) unlike a cedar with the clear reddish center

Looks like it's probably a Bitternut Hickory, to me.

We had mainly shagbark hickory trees around us in KY. Dad would target them for firewood. Hottest burning firewood I've ever seen.
