Revisited because I'm having the same issues...can't see how a minute piece of debris in a filter meant to catch minute pieces of debris could have been the issue... The filter has surface area sufficient to catch "x" amount of minute debris -- that's why it's a filter. Anywho...

I had the issue previously and mech at local dealer said to blow back through system with some air. That did removed (push back) the obstruction, but didn't know where the obstruction was exactly. The tractor ran for a year with no further problems. Now the symptoms have returned so I pulled the seat pan and have accesss to the reserve tank, which all the fuel pass through. My recollection is that the mech said there was a screen or in one of the two tanks to catch larger debris... I'll know soon hopefully. if not atleast the bottom of the seat pan gets cleaned.

Took it all apart...no screens in main or reserve tanks, the factory fuel hoses are badly deteriorated and I dislodged rubber flakes from the lines between the main and reserve tank and the reserve to inline fuel filter...the inline filter is doing it's job, finer dark (probably rubber) in there as well. I will replace all fuel lines and both filters at this stage of the game. The tractor is 3 yrs old with 210 hours.

Well, that sucks!! Those fuel lines should not be doing that, but sounds like you found your problem.

I guess something to look forward to on my tractor.

Wow! I retired and started drawing SSI since this post started.

It's good that you found your problem. Is your hubby still making trips to India? I'm living the good life since I retired and not lookin' back.:D

No more trips to India. Spending a lot of time in WA along the Hood river. Good for you!!! Enjoy!! :)

Well, I am searching these forums again....mowing today and having the same problem as before. ugh Only this time, I am pretty sure I blew the main fuse after the engine starting vibrating and cut out. And, yes, I am here flying solo. I am learning WAY more than I ever wanted to about this darn tractor. Ole Bessie is in one of the front fields cuz she's DOA. I have NO power at all e.g. no panel lights no nuttin. Battery is fine. I found the main fuse and pulled it (not the easiest thing to access). Will get one tomorrow and see if this does the trick. *fingers/toes crossed* I sure hope this is the problem. Seems like we continue to have problems with the secondary fuel filter or 'maybe' fuel pump??? She runs just great and then will intermittently act like fuel starved and I have to cram and pump on the gas pedal FAST to keep her going. Well, this last time she just started shuttering, I disengaged the PTO, but alas she croaked. When I tried to restart, DOA.

Do you think I am on the right track? I spent the better part of last evening figuring out the 3pt. hitch for new (used) brush mower. Shouldn't I be on the sofa eating bon bons??
Or, maybe it's time for a condo.

Holy crap! I am saving your posts for DH. I am STILL having the same problem!!!! Hubby keeps insisting that I am not careful and am getting debris into the secondary fuel filter. Ok, so I am blond, but give me a break. I am back on here because the same thing happened today intermittently while mowing....acting like fuel starved. I have to cram and pump on the gas pedal FAST and furious to keep her going. But, then the last time, engine vibrating, shuttering, I disengaged the PTO but too late. DOA Now, I have nothing...e.g. NO power at all, no panel lights no nuttin. I 'think' the main fuse is blown. Took me a little time to locate it and then a little tricky getting to it to get it out. Will get a new one tomorrow and hopefully at least get it started to limp back to the barn. I am so frustrated with this. Mine has 230 hrs. and is only 4 yrs. old. We take good care of it too...under cover at all times, oil changed, filters changed, greased, cleaned, etc.

My husband is pretty mechanically inclined. How difficult a task was it for you to do all of that? How much time? Where did you get replacement parts?

What were your tractor's symptoms?

Thank you for your help. :)

Forgot to ask...have you reassembled and tested? If so, is problem resolved?

I am hoping that you may have found the answer for so many of us suffering with the same issue. I know my husband said he was not impressed with the quality of the hoses.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing good news!!

jinman,

I have a great idea! Since you are retired and you live in Wise County, how about making a visit to Parker County and fixing my tractor?

I make some mean chocolate chip cookies! :licking:

Reassembled after flushing tanks, changing two short fuel lines and new filters... wife says still have same issue! I suspect vapor lock in reserve tank.. Next step is to bypass reserve tank and feed fuel directly to primary filter. The reserve sits in an area that I would consider subject to heat buildup.

I guess we'll get to the bottom of this later, rather than sooner.

grrrrr.....!!!!

I am off to the field to see if this fuse does the trick. Well, until I am back dealing with the original issue. *sigh*
