I just recieved the following e-mail from a co-worker of mine. Has anyone heard of this?

( Horse, Cattle, Bird and Other Livestock Owners

I apologize for the group mailing but something REALLY
dreadful is about to happen that will affect us all
and our way of life. The USDA is sneaking in a massive
plan that will force anyone who owns a cow, horse,
mule, llama, pig, sheep, duck, chicken or anything
else they deem to be livestock to be registered with
the government and to comply with a list of rules that
includes:

Having a federal site identification number
identifying every animal on the site with an ear tag
or electronic chip

Recording every movement of every animal on and off
the site for any reason

Allow government inspectors onto your premises at any
time to verify your animals and reports

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Implementation
starts in June of this year if we cannot stop it.
Everyone needs to write to every Congressman before
its too late. I am not sure which is the most mind
boggling: the invasion of privacy or the potential
cost, most of which will be borne by the victims! This
is not Internet folklore; the 74-page preliminary
document is available on their website. This is all
under the innocent sounding guise of tracking animal
disease. Here is the link to their site:

People, if we, as cattlemen, horsemen and/or livestock
owners do not launch a massive campaign to stop this
now, we are going to be living in a nightmare of
government permits, paperwork and fines for the
privilege of owning a saddle horse and Lord help those
raising cattle or birds commercially.

A plan this massive and invasive should be within the
auspices of any government
bureaucracy to just write and implement. The creation
of such a big and restrictive plan should only be
allowed by our elected officials, not by career
bureaucrats.

To me, it looks like government has just found another way to expand itself and to place additional burdens on business. Nothing new as a business owner, just another wrinkle in the paper work maze. It took me almost 10 years to get rid of the Bureau of Mines surveys. I never could figure out what mining had to do with retailing, but every quarter the 10 page form would come in the mail. At first I filled them out, and then I stopped. Then came the letters demanding that I fill them out and return them or be subject to fines. Finally came the Federal Paperwork Act and I used that as the reason not to comply... It worked and they stopped mailing the forms. Farmers might not be so lucky and just have to comply to stay in business. Government is like a virus..... it keeps spreading no matter what precautions you take... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Yes,

Please go read the site for details.

No big deal, and please don't start a big brother 1984 rathole on this.

I have seven goats that keep my property cleaned up. These yahoo's are telling me that I will need numbers for these goats and let them know when I sell one or move one over to my dad's place? This sounds nuts. This will be a government money pit. I work for the government and I know first hand how they can turn the simplest task into a goat roping.

In a way I see why thay want/need it. With the last mod cow stuff they had no idea where it had been and what other cows had been with it

Tractors4u,
I could be wrong, but USAIP sure looks like a private company, not a government agency. I took a quick look at the USDA website, but couldn't find anything like this. Maybe they're just trying to scate people into buying their services.

"No big deal, and please don't start a big brother 1984 rathole on this."

This IS a big deal...
From their website: "It is well acknowledged that costs associated with the USAIP will be substantial and that a
public/private funding plan is justified. Significant state and federal costs will be incurred in
overseeing, maintaining, updating, and improving necessary infrastructure. Continued efforts
will be required to seek federal and state financial support for this integral component of
safeguarding animal health in protecting American animal agriculture."

Costs passed on to who? Paid by who? We'll see how much "private money" is used. Continued state and federal funding is MY money.

As I said earlier, This IS big brother and is a big deal.
