I posted the e-mail. It came from a co-worker of mine. He got it from an Alabama based riding club discussion from. The guy who posted it is from Cullman Alabama. See I traced that back to origination with the governments help. Whether or not the e-mail is fake, I don't think so. If so, someone is so bored that they created a website to complete the hoax. Did you look at the website? Whether it is government backed or not it is more foolishness than I want to put up with. I think I will spare them the hassle and I will voluntarily get my 7 goats Social Security numbers!

I have heard of it. My wife has listened to a USDA official speak of it, and has some literature on it, though we haven't had a chance to look it over yet. They are in the planning stages... there will be a cost, but they don't know what the cost will be, or who will be required to pay it. Some want farmers to pay for it (a couple of dollars max per head) Some think .gov oughta pay for it...
They know VERY little right now, but seem to be trying to get it planned and hashed out in time to begin in a year or so in earnest.
Goats, chickens, cattle, sheep, horses...basically anything that is either consumed by humans or could infect animals consumed by humans domestically (In the US) or exported overseas is on the list, so I hear.

The only thing I don't want is some bowtie- or even worse, black boot wearing schmuck thinking he can come on my property every couple of days at his whim to prove I'm in compliance. Lots of farmers have said that to the planners, so I hear...
We'll see what they come out with. I too can see why they want this... but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
Conspiracy? Hardly, IMO. Just more government beaucracy to keep us safe. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I believe that the Plan is the work of industry leaders and government agencies to track disease - probably the result of the mad cow disease scare and 911. Initially, it will be a voluntary program that only affects livestock in the food industry. Mandatory implementation, if that occurs, will be gradual. You probably can get more information from your local extension office.

I deleted my post, sorry I sounded so abrasive. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (Crow tastes worse in the morning /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif LOL )
Even if the plan was carried through,it would be very difficult to enforce. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Sounds to me like it might be something like the ISO 9000 program which is voluntary.
Interesting web page though. Thanks for posting it.

"We have a diiference of opinion then."

We agree to disagree. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I personally don't have a problem with some parts of the program, like marking cows and hogs.
I do have a big problem with the fish icon and the deer icon. I want to see how many man hours will be wasted (at taxpayer expense /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif) trying to catch all the deer and fish to get them chipped! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And then, when they breed, trying to implant chips into fish fry and fawns. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
On the surface, the program means well, but in praticality, it ain't gonna fly without raising our taxes another notch and creating more inefficiency within the gummit. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If you visit Agriculture Online.. they have news about the COOL program and the Animal ID program.. just click on "News" on the left hand side. I visit this site often.. they seem to have pretty good coverage of Ag news.

Well, let me try not to be too abrasive. Big animals like moo cows, horsies, and piggies, maybe it makes sense. Little animals like birdies, fishies and wabbits, make no financial sense.

Lets get a grip here. North America has had two (2) cows get BSE. They may have gotten it from feed you can't sell any more, they may have developed it spntaneously, they may have gotten some other way. But thats 2 animals. Places like Japan, Europe, and the UK got dozens and dozens of cases every year. This is not a problem.

So, when I first read the post, I figured this had to be an Internet scam. If not, then your government is even dumber than mine - and that's saying something. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey, did you see the latest news about salmon - fish.
Seems they (forgot who they were/are) do not want the consumer to eat more than one helping a Month. A month,
now IIRC the article stated this was like a WORLD wide
farm alert. See the farms where the fish are raised are feeding pellets loaded with PCB's.
But they cannot really track the fish to markets, so......

they recommend you eat Ocean raised fish....

Now, I dare you to go ask your local grocer - is that a salmon fillet from the ocean or the farm.....

Mind you, I thought I heard something about mercury levels of high enough concentrations to avoid in large ocean going fish.....

Sigh.....
