Kubota UDT is priced at close to $6.00 per gallon, which is not very expensive for most compact tractors. How much does your tractor hold and what is the change interval? Did not know what kind of tractor you had. The filters probably cost nearly as much as the UDT. There is nothing magic about UDT except that it MUST be approved for wet disk brakes that run in the fluid. If not, the cost of the fluid is kinda academic. My tractor holds about 17 gallons or about $100 worth of UDT ($200 worth of Super UDT-which it has in it now) but the change interval is pretty long. This is years for many users between changes.

Wen, my dealer may be high, but I paid $8.14 a gallon for UDT earlier this week (in one gallon containers; undoubtedly cheaper in the 5 gallon buckets).

I believe Valvoline makes Kubota UDT. I am also sure it is no different that John Deere or NH universal tractor fluid approved for wet disk brakes. The older Kubota manuals used to list all of the equivalent brands that they said to use, but the newer manuals do not. Do a search as someone listed that information either here or in the archives.
Guess my only point was that for a lot of people, you are not going to change the hydraulic fluid over once every year or so, so it is a pretty small expense and you at least know what you are getting for your money. Most of the compacts don't hold many gallons anyway.

While at Sam's Club today in south-central Michigan, I noticed that they have a Heavy Duty Transmission/Hydraulic Fluid that says it meets Kubota UDT standards among others.
It was in a 5 gallon pail for $18.15, that's less than $4/gallon. I've never used it, hope this helps.
