no problem i know exactly how you feel,i made my own cable out of a heavy duty one from the parts store and made it a little longer ,to compensate for the vibration these motors have i believe thats whats breaks them, the cables are to short, glad to help you out have fun moving snow, thats what i will be doing today we got 15" yesterday lots of plowing left to do with the truck&tractor

I was told many years back "allways check the ground wires 1st" Not allways, but many times it is just a bad ground or gruded up wire connection. Glad you got it running.

"Simply amazing, what a forum!"

ABSOLUTELY! "Houston, we have ignition!" At least, with a temporary ground strap (longer, with vibration absorbing bends in it!), the starter finally kicks in, no "clicky-clicky" when I test the test light on the battery....

Whew! Now tractor's plugged in to block heater, start relay back in place, and I have several panels to re-install. But, I'll try it first to make sure it starts.

All I had available here was a piece of #8 (or #6?) stranded copper cable- but that's gotta be better than the old one, which was apparently hanging on by just a few threads before it burned itself off completely. Permanent replacement will come later. I made circles on the ends of the wire, then pretty well saturated them with solder. Might even be as good as the old one....

revver, I agree 100%- sure looks like the cable was too short, engine vibration eventually started to crack the strands. Any permanent replacement I get will d___ sure be longer!!

And then, I've got some snow to clean up!

WE HAVE JOY!

After block heater for 30 mins, she started right up- actually quicker than usual!!:D:D

Advised Rick @ Northwood of issue- he looked at the new models (2400, 2600) and saw that they've apparently repositioned the bolts for that ground strap, which also might be a bit longer; there's now a large "U" bend to absorb vibration.

Now, to clean up the new snow and the plowtruck piles/banks- what a mess, to someone as **** as I am about snow clearing....:p

Good catch Revver! Loose grounds can be a real pain to find some times.

Enjoy your snow clearing, we got ice down here, what a mess that was.

What about using one of the braided ground straps? They're pretty good at handling vibration.

Glad you have it up and running and ready to go. Mine is a 2007 as well not sure why there's a difference in the ground strap but the one on mine is a flat braided strap about 1" wide and approx 1/8" thick. And it's plenty long enough. Here's a problem that I had last fall with no start and sometimes start. Finally traced it down to the wire that goes onto the starter solenoid,it looked good on the outside but was broken inside the outer sheath,it was about 1" from the solenoid.I just cut out the broken piece soldered in a piece of wire making it longer and its was good to go.These little engines seem to have quite a bit of vibration's so looks like there's going to be others with problems of wire failure's due to the shake's.Larry

Sorry dcyrilc guess I was typing and putting my two cents in the same time you posted.LOL
