Ultimate Burn Barrel

Like magic, Bird. I'll have to look, but I take it you must be a moderator to be able to edit someone else's post.

You poured the block? That's what it looks like from your pic. Very heavy duty. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

( bczoom, I likely have the same Sony Mavica laying around. On a trip to St. Thomas last year I bought a Minolta digital camera with a 40X zoom and a 1 gig SD memory chip. In high quality mode, as single picture is about 9.5 megs in size. The entire floppy disc only holds 1.44 megs unformatted, and 1.2 after formatting. That really severely limits the quality of the picture you can take.)

This darn camera stuff is getting more complicated than the computers. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Yesterday was my 10th anniversary. I broke a rule and one of the things I got Mrs. BCZoom was a new Sony camcorder (rule broken was there should never be anything that attaches through a cord)
Another one of the wonderful things we have that's a PITA to use/figure out (but the touch screen is handy).

Luckily, this one comes equiped with a big EASY button. Just presss it and everything goes auto. That's all she wants.
I'll use the more advanced functions but have bigger fish to fry than reading/memorizing the contents of that manual.

Yep, not as much work as you think. A few bags of premix was all. This is mod #4 I think.
1 - barrel propped up on 2 layers of 8x16 block.
2 - blocks stacked loose - no liner. Blocks burned out in only a few seasons.
3 - Mortared blocks - no liner - Blocks burned out but took a few more seasons before it collapsed.
4 - this one. Mortared and cores filled, with liner. Was doing alright but you can see some cracking already.

Now that I have it pretty well perfected I can't use it. This state (Wa) last year ran adds in the papers asking good hearted citizens to rat out anyone they saw using a barrel and I am right on the highway. Still sneak in a few burns a year tho. I hope to get a shot showing the entire front and side but having problems with it. bczoom may post it for me.

I did a google on wood burners yesterday and a bunch of sites popped up that had to do with banning or limiting the use of outdoor wood burners to heat your home in certain locations. Something to do with smoke, view and smell.

I guess one person's outdoor fire is another person's area light /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Front/side view for a bit of clarification. The bottom two rows are 8x16, the remainder 6X16 yeilding a ledge for 4 iron bars to rest on. Those need replacing regularly too as they also burn up. Ashes fall through the bars and get shoveled out. The lintel is two pieces of heave guage (3/8" IIRC) angle iron.

Thanks to bczoom for his help with this

Trunkey4099, Hmmmmmm
1. I have not replaced anything (may never need to).
2. I used all recycled no building or buying any thing
Sorry, yours is nice but..... I like mine better. No concession.

IL Haz, I have cleaned out differently, from shoveling from a hole under the side, to lifting the washer tub off and cleaning it out, or rolling the culvert a few feet and burying the ashes. It has many clean out options to fit your particular need.

ns in tx - Now I may have to concede to this one: /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
1. 5000 gal - wow - you could BBQ a half cow!
2. Clean with FEL
3. In Texas where you can actually use it.

Cowboydoc, cute, but.... those barrels are a bit tipsy, at least here in Texas. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm going to have to check my post more often looks like we went from barrel burning to post editing to picture posting to barrel racing and back again - Only on TBN
