Spence, if my wife sees this I am going to be in hot water. I don't know what the forks cost but I'm betting they are a lot cheaper than my BH. You have developed a system that I think you will see widely copied. Your "out of the box" thinking is very refreshing.

Very impressive. I just had my tractor delivered last Saturday and I got a set of similar forks. I wasn't sure I would get my money's worth out of them, but if I can dig stumps with them like you can, I know I'll be happy. I hope I can duplicate your technique.

How do you keep your tractor so clean doing that? I've gotten mine dirty just sitting on it in the garage. /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Is the soil there kinda sandy? It looks like it has a lot more sand in it than what I have - clay and rock - I dig stumps using my bucket w/teeth but sure find it tougher than what your pics show. Half of the cedars I have to cut roots by hand on and all of the oaks have to be attacked with an axe before I even try with the bucket. I've just about decided to give up on stump removal until I get all the trees knocked down that I need - then go rent a big ol' backhoe to dig stumps. Gettin' too old to swing that axe all day.

As I see your pics I wonder if you could take this idea further - say you had the ability to scissor the forks hydraulically both lateral or vertical - would that have made the process easier?

I'll be seeing Mark on Friday to do up a purchase order on the 4710. Was thinking of adding the canopy to the shopping list. Now, after seeing these forks at work on these stumps, the canopy just fell off the list to be replaced by these forks. You think Mark will give me a good price on these?? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

They are Skid Steer type Quick Tach forks. They are made by Construction Attachments Inc.

I bought the whole set-up with the tractor as a package deal. The forks were about $750 US extra and the Unihitch was about $400 US extra. I needed a special bucket with the Quick Tach brackets welded onto it so they gave me the New Holland Quick Tach HD 60" bucket (made for 16LA loader) for only $50 US extra than what the standard bucket for my 7308 loader would have been. New Holland makes a Quick Tach bracket for their 16LA and larger loaders but not my 7308. That is why I had to go with the Kasco unit. Its well made but I had to make my own spacers for it as it is a universal type made to fit multiple loaders.

If anyone is thinking of getting some forks for their tractor I would recommend getting something similar to mine. Mine have a locking pin to lock the forks from sliding. The forks also are attached to a second brace down near the bottom. The less expesive forks I looked at have the forks attached to tubing at the top. This allows the forks to slide right or left freely. They have the second brace down at the bottom but they are not attached to it they only rest against it. Using my method of stump removal the fence would be the only thing moving as I tried to curl the forks down to break the roots. The forks would not curl forward as they are not attached to anything at the bottom, they would stay in place and the fence would pivot on the tubing.
