Thanks guys. Does anyone have a parts manual for the 4230 showing what the bracket looks like, that bolts on front?

It would be nice if the tires would hold a little air to make the roll more easily but the front axle center section is very beefy on this vintage and it should be a safe winch point for any tractor that hasn't partially buried itself in the ground.

Since you want the tractor facing forward on your tractor, it will be far easier to guide onto your trailer pulling from the front.

I'm taking a generator and a new air compressor. https://www.harborfreight.com/29-ga...belt-drive-shopauto-air-compressor-58507.html Winch doubled up barely pulled my tractor onto the trailer. So low or flat tires are a no go.

I wonder why my Uncle took that bracket off. I hope to find it laying around up there. No way to pull on that bracket. It's just for suitcase weights then.

The tractor may never had one. It optional.

Back when I was employed by JD dealer I attached winch cable to front axle on many JD tractors in order to load tractor on Rollback bed truck or trailer & never harmed the front axle

I would think with fully aired up tires and a freed up gear box, the beefiness of that front end axle and triple pivot points should be more than sufficient. I might be concerned about the front "raring up" with the winch mounted that high on the trailer when the back wheels hit the base of the ramps though. Might want to have a plan B to keep the winch cable 2 feet off the deck + or - at that point.
