dogs, motion lights, video recording, cables are all nice.... most of the neighbors here put up gates across driveway after a rash of robberies. We have dogs that bark at noises and will be putting up gates soon.

Might work in South Dakota...depends on who the unlucky "ne'er do well" is or who he is related to.
South Carolina... on the other hand, might have a few more questions.

I would go the cable/lighting route as the primary, with the large bore as the secondary....er uh... don't forget the throwaway, unregistered backup.

Put it this way...we don't have bands of roving thieves in this state for long.

What are you trying to secure?

No chain or cable is uncuttable if a thief has time. Battery or gas grinders and abrasive chop saws can cut anything. Some hardened chains are bolt cutter resistant but they are no match for an abrasive cutter or torch

Best thing is to remove the batteries, hidden switches, change the ignition switch to a unique keyed one etc etc.

And keep your insurance up to date. Nothing will stop a determined thief with time.

Very effective...but then you are left with an annoying disposal problem....or a lot of paperwork.

Lojack has many thieves thinking twice. If they do not have a place to unload it right away.A pipeline company used them on the towable air compressors. Word gets around pretty quick.

That reminds me: I forget now where I read about it, here or someplace else, guy kept having his rotary cutters stolen. Stored them in his barn, behind his barn, nothing worked, all walked off. Finally he ended up taking his new replacement up on the hill above his house and painting camo all over it and left it setting in the treeline. Never had a problem after that. Plain sight if ya knew what to look for, well hidden to those that didn't.

A guy got busted here with a bobcat that had lojack. When they busted him, they found a lot of stolen stuff, he was operating a construction company with stolen equipment. I still see welders and gensets suspended from cranes on jobsites.

yep.. grinder or torch wins on most things...
