Underground propane tank

I had the same problem with the old gas company I used . I called many times to pick up the tank , and they just blew me off /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. I guess they were limited on space and wanted me to store it until they needed it . Anyway , One day I just used the tractor and hauled it out on to the county road "right of way" and then called them and told them they might want to pick up their tank before it created a accident and they got sued, big time ! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif . Oh boy ! They were not happy campers /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.The tank was gone in two hours . I somehow had forget to mention to them it was not any where near the main road ,just on the county right of way /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif .Hee Hee

If it was mine, I'd probably have it filled and see what happens. But, I'm sure not going to recoimmend it to anyone else (he said, ducking the responsibility...)

the color is wrong for my tractor and the size is too large for my tractor. Other than that, that is a great idea if I needed something that large. Just not certain how you would weld on a tank that previously had propane in it...

You want to weld on a propane tank?

Run steam through it for several days - let it cool - use meter to check for combustibles and oxygen -- option to purge with nitrogen next-- check for combustibles and oxygen - start welding.

I filled a propane tank with water before doing anything that might make sparks. After that fill and dump, propane water stinks by the way, the tank never really had the propane odor.

I would weld on it now.

I buried mine and couldn't be happier.
It's a 500 gallong tank and the only thing that shows is a small green fuel port about the size of a frisbee and about 6 inches tall.
This is a different tank than the above ground types and it has a special annode attached to prevent corrosion through electrolysis.
We simply dug the hole with the trackhoe, lowered the tank and backfilled the hole with bank sand, then some top soil. The grass grew right up to and around the spout that shows, and it's green too, so it's much easier on the eyes.

Wouldn't go any other way.

I own my own 1000 Gal burried tank. When they built the house, they included the tank which seems to be the standard. Around me, almost all tanks are burried. My kids school has an area where you can see the 5 fill domes for their LP tanks. It seems really odd when you see one above ground...
