That sounds pretty similar to the pattern that I'm getting into with mine too. All the on/off cycles in the manual seemed excessive. I am safety minded, but the only time you really need the engine off is when you are relieving the pressure and disconnecting those hoses. Just don't get "under" the loader at any time.

As Bird mentioned, its fairly easy to take on and off the FEL. I have done it many times.
