Well since I have convinced the wife that the Unimog was a good investment, and is worth way more restored I have started to strip it down to the frame. Besides this is the only way to fit it into the shop to work on it! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif In this photo you can see that I just got the Case rear deck off. The Kubota picked it up with no problems! No small feat, as this thing is made out of 1 1/4" plate stock! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Had to do alittle cutting here and there to get it off of the frame! This thing makes my Zamboni look small, and thats no easy task! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

In this photo you can see the dump box that I removed and just some of the rust that came off of the deck and box. I already got rid of two pails full! I'll have to change the weight on the thing when I get done! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is the rear view of the frame. Once I get the ROPS off I can put it in the shop and remove the cab, pull the motor, trans, and drop the axles. Then sandblast the frame down and start from scratch.

I still need to find a good replacment cab for it. I am going to replace this two door cab with a 4 door crew cab. Just have to find one first! There is just too much rust in this one to even try to fix. Plus these things are so tight in there with the two door cab.

Von,
I assume you know about it but Rocky Mountain Moggers is a great mog referance site.

Very interesting to see the inside of a Mog. Keep posting pictures. They are great and educational.

Good luck on the restoration. It looks like a lot of work, but if you're going to restore something, you might as well restore somthing with pizzaz.

That rear photo shows a great example of the ground clearance these beasts have with those portal axles. Thanks for the photos! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That cab reminds me of my '71 Toyota Landcruiser. I pulled the body off and had it acid dipped. Didn't get much back! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Von........
I have been reading all your post's but wouldn't reply since your wife wanted to have words with me.. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Now she has calmed down, I just wanted to say that the progress looks good. My brother is happy that it went to someone that can make a go of it. I also told him that you had it running already. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Take care and make it fun.....George Oh by the way, what size is your garage? Got one planned in the future.
