Anyone got any good places with a wide assortment of good throttle/choke cables?

Want to replace the OEM one on my ford 5500 backhoe. Seized up years ago and previous owner just actuated the lever by hand. I installed an old cable I had on the shelf, one of the push pull types and mounted it down by the steering column as it was way too short and had the wrong end to hook to the factory lever.

One end is just a blank end that hooks to the injector.

The end that connects to the lever has a short ~4" steel rod/guide. Since you cannot "push" a cable into a sleeve, this is kinda a guide.

Will see if I can get some pictures. running to the shop now to do so

If you're close to Shelby, check Glens' Surplus. If you've never been there, it's worth the trip even if they don't have a cable for you.

I try to avoid that store. Every time I go there I walk out with an empty wallet:mur:

Here is the cable ends. There should be an eyelet and cable coming out of the tube on the right side.

Here is where it attaches

The outer-jacket length is approx 80" and the inside cable diameter is 0.080". Not sure the OAL cause the one end broke off and not sure what it looks like. I am guessing ~90" should work.

Ford wants $150 for this piece

Sums it up perfect.

Got lots of goodies. Bout a 50min-1hr drive for me. If I were to go up there to buy a $20 item I walk out having spent $150:confused2:

I order mower blades from there. We used to go up once a year, for blades, filters, etc. Guess I never bought anything I couldn't use, but much cheaper to order online, and get what you "need".

That's why it's called the Shelby Mall.

I once needed cables to remotely control my snow plow valves.
I bought the cables they use to actuate PTO pumps on dump trucks, the kind that takes power from the transmission.
They were very affordable, tough and rugged with about an .80 thou rigid inner that easily push/pulled the hydraulic valves.
Ran that old plow for about 8 years with no problems at all.

Never thought to try surplus center.

I think I'll have to give one of these a try 88" CONTROL CABLE

I think I'll order one. I think I can use the clevis end on the pump instead of the little side-stud thingy that the wire goes in, and I can get a threaded ball end to work on the lever end. I like that price too.

Thanks, I think the problem is solved for now...at least if I can make it work.

TSC sells a pull cable that I have installed on 65+ fords ( a 5000 as well ) ). I think some of them actually say 'choke' but some don't.

They fit int he oem holes in my dashm and are PLENTY long to make it tot he IP. then just slip the core out. cut the sheath to fit, fi the end cap. slip the core in, attach, lock, trim.

That's what I was going to suggest. TSC, O'Reilly, Napa, should all have something on the shelf. You can at least look at it and try to see if it'll work, which is hard to do with online purchases.

Problem is I need one without the "knob".

I currently have one of them types and drilled a hole to operate. The 5500 has a hand lever that needs an eyelet on one end to attach to. That hand lever is on the console beside the seat.

I ordered the one I linked at surplus center for $19.99. I'll see if it works when it arrives
