Just voicing my opinion here, maybe others have been experiencing the same thing. Over the last month or two, the number of negative, rude, out-of-line, comments from unregistered users has been very high. Without getting into a lot of detail, I have found it rather annoying to say the least. It seems as though several people are just trying to rile people up.

Yep, the lurkers are out there and we have to deal with them.

Upon occasion, I have notice them and have responded by calling their bluff. In most cases, they get the hint and back off. If they are really obnoxious, just notify Muhammad and he will perform his Webmaster duties. That is what he doesn't get paid for.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

As the number of posts goes up, so does the number of the posts you mention. Recently, there have been many new people visit the site, and in particular the forums... over 8,000 new people visited in March who didn't visit in February, and some of them might think their behavior as conducted on other forums is acceptable here as well. It's our job to show them that we adhere to a much higher standard here at TBN, and they will need to as well in order to participate.

We're adding more and more moderators to keep up with the pace. We'll also look at removing posts for partial offenses... i.e. if someone posts a rather acceptable post, and finishes it with "understand now, idiot?" ... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

And remember, don't hesitate to use the notify moderator feature... explained below, from the guidelines:

Notifying a Moderator of a Post
At the bottom of each post, there are four icons, each having a specific function. The image to the far right is the notify moderator button (
notifymod.gif
). This feature is in place for users to do their part in helping keep the quality of discussion forum content as high as possible. You should use the notify moderator feature when any of the following appear in a post:

1) Insults or offending remarks.
2) Posting or uploading of material that you think is false or inaccurate.
3) Posting or uploading of material you find inappropriate or offensive.
4) Posting or uploading of material you think is copyrighted.
5) Posting or uploading of advertisements.
6) Any other issue you think the moderators should look at.

While the moderators of the forum try to review the forums on a regular basis, given the high volume of posts to the forum, they do not always review each and every post to each and every forum, each and every day. So, your assistance in keeping the forum a great place to be is welcomed, but in no way required.

Notifying the moderators of a post does not necessarily mean action will be taken on the post, but it does mean it will be reviewed as soon as possible (typically within 10 minutes). Also, notifying moderators of a post doesn't mean that person will be banned or disciplined. Our moderators are very understanding and courteous, and editing or removing posts is not what they set out to do. In fact, our forum has a very low 0.0002% moderation rate on all posts. We don't expect many posts to require attention, but we have the feature in place for the rare times a post does need to be reviewed.

Muhammad - Well said! (And yes, I do understand now, but you don't have to call me "idiot", even if I do answer to it... /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif)

Any time this topic is broached, the issue of censorship is usually raised. I personally think it doesn't apply here, because this is a voluntary-membership forum. If politeness and considerateness irritate someone, they can go somewhere else where everyone seems to thrive on it - then we can all be happy. I think it's great that everyone knows ahead of time that it won't be tolerated - you can waste your time trying it, but it's going to be deleted anyway, so why bother? This formula has worked perfectly in the past, though it was seldom needed. As TBN grows, it'll become more common, but only in actual counts, not in percentage of posts, I'll bet.

Thanks for the great job, as always, Muhammad. And start stocking up on pink paint! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

From the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.imcuniverse.com/>imcuniverse.com</A> website:
"Muhammad is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Korean Taekwondo; he was an active New York State Team member, and the 1994 United States National Champion as well as 4-time New York State champion. He also formerly served as an Instructor at Sang Lee's Black Belt Academy, in Vestal, NY, for four years."

You know… I have met Muhammad… and I can attest to the fact that he is a “gentle” man…some of his mannerisms reminds me of one of my best friends… he’s quiet and soft spoken… some people would confuse that with “being timid and signs of weakness”… I admire my friend’s attributes and see it as a sign of “strength”…

My friend, believe me, has the strength to kill ya if he had to…and I’m sure Muhammad could politely do the same… /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

One of the signs in my shop says:

Nothing is as strong as gentleness,… or as gentle as strength…

Hi Kevin...

Hey... not such a bad idea... No... I don't have a sign shop, but I have these cheapo "paper" computer generated signs I've made over the years...

Started with my girls when they were younger and I'd make a sign and post it in their rooms... or post it on the refrig... or the bathroom... or next to the dog or cat's dish...or etc. etc.

It was always signs of life, signs of encouragement, signs of going forward, signs of doing the right things... even under the wrong conditions... signs against drugs, against premarital sex, against smoking, against drinking, against lying-cheating, signs for healthy living, signs to let them know just how much I care for, cherish and love them... and just plain signs to be a better person... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Many people have a quirk or two... I guess this is one of mine.../w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

John,

Here's a couple of sayings that I used on signs with my scout troop:

"Sitting on a tack is like getting an idea...........both should make you rise and take action!"

"Before engaging mouth, put mind into gear."
