I'm thinking my machine was probably built in early to mid 2005 and could possibly be a candidate for cracks.

I really don't want to take the back plate off the cross member to inspect and don't see any cracks working out from under that plate --

Your tractor sounds like it is the same vintage as mine. Pre suspension seat and definitely not with the new loader design.

It really is no big deal to take the inspection plate off. Takes about five minutes to take it off, inspect the holes and replace it. Just be careful if you decide to do it with the bucket in the air (easiest way) that you prop a good brace under the FEL in case the hydraulics fail with you underneath. You won't see cracks unless you do with less than 50 hrs on your machine.

"I've also heard a few "creek" type noises from the loader when working w/ rocks and such in the woods. Perhaps it just needs some grease, but I hope it's not the sign of strain on something that will eventually let go. I'll grease it up w/ the new grease gun I got for Christmas and keep checking for cracks."

This is exactly how I first found the cracks. The creak got me looking for a cause since I had just lubed the loader I knew it wasn't caused by a dry joint.

I raised the loader and manually loaded the bucket listening for that creek. Then I saw the failure, the rest is history.
