Updating my old trailer

Guess it's pretty obvious I'm ignorant of what are considered good brands Down Under.

Neil,

You asked for a pic of this thing quite a while ago and I finally got around to taking one over the weekend. Here is one with the trailer tilted up in the loading process.

Here's one with the bed down and ready to go. The front wheels of the white pickup are on the swivel platform. With the front of the trailer down the back lifts the platform and off we go. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Sorry I hadn't got back to this post sooner Gary.

Thanks very much for the pics.

But what the hell is that you use for a tow vehicle?

When you said a truck I thought you meant on the those big pickups or suv's or whatever you guys call them.

But that is a full-on semi isn't it?

I will send these pics to my mates, but what I want to know is, can you legally tow that with a normal size pickup like what is on the trailer.

That's what we want to know !!

But very impressive I must say.

Cheers

Neil,

Usually I use the red Tahoe you see on the trailer to do the towing. I happened to have that little Peterbilt with a receiver hitch so thought that might make a better picture for you.

As to it being "a full on semi," it really isn't. This is a single (rear) axle unit. Also, this is what we call "a day cab" in that it has no sleeper. This one happens to have a fifth wheel on it but could just as easily have a 9' dump bed and hoist instead. It's really not that big of a truck. This one has a 300HP Caterpillar 3216 diesel with an Eaton Super 10 speed transmission (like the old 5 + 2's).

For pulling something like this trailer the Pete 330 is really overkill. I bought it to pull an eight place, 40,000 lb. GVW car hauler I'd bought. That's a far better match for it.

My red Tahoe handles that trailer with my Deere 4200, FEL, BH and a mower or box blade with no problems. If I were going to do a lot of towing with two vehicle as you see here I'd probably go with a Suburban K-2500 with a towing package.

As to being legal, I'm completely legal with my Tahoe so long as I have a brake controller for the trailer brakes. I can pull a tri-axle four car hauler with a pickup legally, also.

If you want me to look for any other pictures of unusual (to you) things we do here, just ask. I'll be happy to help.

Yes please Gary. We get a kick out of all things automotive.

My mate was impressed with your pics and thought that was just your "little" truck

We have a perception that all yanks drive "yank tanks" - eg. BIG TRUCKS.

He showed me Toyota's website in the US which has a 4 runner with a V8 engine in it.

geez we are stuck with Hiluxes (4 runners are the same shape for us) with piddly diesels and the occasional V6.

Cheers
