MFWD is definite.
We were debating about HST - drove both - but after coming home and reading some posts, we're convinced that the $1,000 savings is not the right decision in this case. So, yes to HST as well.
we're keeping our bush hog and box blade, and trading in the 850.
so now its a finance question - take the April 02 model w/10 months warranty left, and save about $2,500 bucks over same new? Or go new and upgrade to the 430 loader w/HD bucket (about $700+ more, so total will be $3,200 more)
however... free financing for 36 mos if new saves about $1,500 over same 36 mos used financing. So its really net $1,700...

for $1700.00 you are upgrading the loader and bucket. new extra compfy seat. 14 mos more warranty. Lower hours, no tire wear. You are also a new buyer, which helps them reach quotas (worth more...) That doesn't sound like much depreciation on the used unit...

We all LOVE spending your money!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bob -

Does the 4-in-1 bucket require any additional hydraulics that the normal 460 FEL/Bucket combination doesn't already give you? I'm going to be purchasing a HD bucket for my 460FEL (I only have the dirt bucket) and was wondering what was required if I decided to upgrade and just get the 4-in-1..

Thanks!

Bob...

You'll need 3 SCVs to operate the 4in1 bucket, which is one more SCV than what you would use to operate a regular bucket. Three SCVs would operate 1) bucket/FEL lift, 2) bucket curl (forward/backward), and 3) opening up the clamshell.

See following web link for more info on what the 4in1 bucket is and what it does. Double left click on the upper left pictorial at top of page 1 to view what the four functions are.

Bob -

If a third SCV is needed, where does it go? Also - how does the clamshell get operated of the joystick (since it seems to only have 4 positions - all analogous to the usage of the standard bucket and dual SCV)?

If I were to go with the 4-in-1 I would need the more expensive bucket, the addition of the extra SCV, and some type of modified joystick it sounds like - all probably more than I would want to pay right now. I'll have to price it out and see what that comes to.

Thanks.

Welcome to the board! If you are going to go with the 4310 then I would strongly suggest the 430 loader. The 420 loader will work but does not have the lifting/hydraulic power of the 430. As already stated the 4 in 1 bucket requires the 3rd SCV which costs a "few bucks" but you may want to go with a mmm and you will need the 3rd scv anyway. The 4 in 1 bucket is really nice for moving smaller downed trees or holding them so you can cut them up with the chainsaw. The 4310 or the 4410 will meet your needs and you may want this model due to size constraints (i.e. manueverability in the barn or tight spaces) If size is not an issue, you may want to consider a 4510, 4610, or 4710. The 4610 gives you the most tractor for the money but the 4710's are nice to have the 48 hp. These models will allow you to go with the 460 loader and offer more hp and implement size handling ability over the 4310. The 460 loader offers you much more lift capacity which is handy for what you may be doing. It would be a big advantage lifting round bales of hay. The 4310 with the 420 loader your dealer is offering may be a good deal but if the tractor and loader combination is not going to meet your needs, you would eventually upgrade and spend even more money. Best to get a unit that actually exceeds your requirements and you will find that with time you find other tasks for the extra capacity. Try test demoing some of the other larger and smaller model tractors and make your decision. Good luck on your tractor purchase. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

See attached pic. All five of my SCVs are installed here.....3 operate the FEL's 4in1 bucket and 2 operate the top and tilt I have at the back end.

...and the clamshell (3rd function) is controlled by that lever you see directly in front of the FEL's joystick. This is the standard John Deere install method by the dealer if you have the dealer install the 3rd SCV.

If I were to go with the 4-in-1 I would need the more expensive bucket, the addition of the extra SCV, and some type of modified joystick it sounds like

I paid $1370 for my 4in1 bucket. Don't know how much extra that 3rd SCV was because I got all 5 at the same time....they weren't broken down separately, so can't suggest what that 3rd one alone may cost. You can go with that lever that controls the 3rd SCV similar to what I have or you can install what they call a Fasse valve which is a small button at the top of the FEL joystick. When I inquired about the cost of the Fasse valve, I learned it was very expensive (approx. $800 for the Fasse valve, hoses, and set-up just to install that 3rd SCV). Too much......so, I went with the standard install and I've been quite satisfied.
