Points well taken. I need to decide what to do because I have a 21 acre piece of land that is mostly field and some woods. My little 2310 does a great job but it is just not big enough to do all that I need to do. I am in the midst of getting ready to build a new house on the land and eventually would like to hay the field to feed to our horses. The thought had crossed my mind to keep my 2310 and buy a larger used tractor and some hay equipment next year. I won稚 need the larger tractor until then so that is a possibility. If I had my way, I would have a whole stable full of tractors instead of a stable full of horses. They sure are easier to clean up after.
I have 24 acres and like you it's mostly field with some woods. We cut hay on half of the property and we grow pumpkins every year and we are also starting to plant Christmas trees. Right now, I partner with a retired carpenter-turned-farmer on the hay side. He has the equipment and does the cutting and we split it 50/50. I help him out on some of his other fields as well just because he has been such a great friend and has taught me a lot.
Anyway, I currently have a 1433 and have just upgraded to a 1552 (delivery scheduled for this Friday!) because I felt the 1433 was too small! If you are planning to do your own hay you might want something bigger (I know many people will argue that comment). My partner has a 40 hp Ford, 4 cylinder and I have used it to make hay on our fields and it does a much better job than my 1433. Besides having an extra 7 hp, the Ford's engine weighs more and gives the whole tractor a lot more stability. The baler shoves the Ford around, behind my 1433 it was real rough!
Just my $.02... Good luck with your decision!
