I too, believe the subframe backhoe setup is the way to go...if that option is available and will not prevent use of a MMM, if a MMM is desired...just in case I might come across as trying to be the champion of the 3ph backhoe...which I certainly am not.

Just curious...and counting here too... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

basicaly what's being said here, is the for someone who's only gonna use the hoe now and then, the 3pt mount is fine, and i'll agree with that.

as a machinist/welder, i've seen tractors with broken top link mounts, not from a hoe, just from missuse, and abuse over the years. no way will the 3pt hoe be as stable, or strong as the solid mount versions, and after extended use, will tend to wear links and such rather rapidly.

i've fixed a few of the 70's 580 cases over the years, because the hoe was alowed to come loose in it's bracket's, and would break the ear's off...

i've seen the 1" plate mounts on our '70 580 ck do some serious flexing during hard digging, and wouldn't try a 3ph hoe because of that.......

there's my $0.02

I don't have the specific info when I was shopping for a tractor I was looking at the Carver Equipment dealership web site and the owner had a story of a neighbors college age son killed by a three point hitch back hoe. Said that He and his son were experienced farmers. I think the back hoe came out of its mounts and crushed him aginst the roll bar.The owner said that there was nothing wrong with a three point hitch backhoe but that the frame mount back hoe was safer. I've seen one broken in half. Don't know exactly how it was broken. Owner has both a hoe and FEL for it. When I saw it, it was sitting in his garage with jacks under both halves, with no hoe or FEL on it. I asked what we was carrying when it broke and he told me "Nothing. I was just moving it across the yard." (A likely story).

Actually he could be correct. He could have broken it in use and it not have fallen apart until he was moving it and bounced it during travel. Without futher investigation we don't know for sure what broke it. So this one is a maybe.

Do you know if the hoe wah a 3PH mount?

Henro just a thought but maybe you should contact your local natural gas supplier with questions concerning 3-point backhoes. I was told that in this area (Northeast Ohio) the local suppliers were using the 3-point backhoes and as a result of everyday use busting a lot of tractor cases. They then made a switch to Bradco w/subframe mount backhoes and eliminated their breakage. This info came to me second hand I did not contact the gas supplier myself but I would think that you might do this in your area and get some good advice from the people that put the implements to hard use on a daily basis. I opted for the subframe mount just for the safety standpoint. I am sure your wife would be most understanding and cheerfully allow you to make the upgrade regarding the safety issue involved. wink wink /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You know, I remember seeing the hoe laying on the ground and I don't remember if It was 3 pt or sub frame. I guess I was too busy wondering how it's look on my tractor.

Well, I must admit that I have planted that seed and cultivated it again this afternoon while we were on the train here in Japan today... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I just know that a 3ph backhoe is not as good as a sub frame or other kind of mounted backhoe. If there is another kind...is there I wonder?

I am totally happy with my B2910 and truly believe I do not need to go bigger....but the Kubota 3430 with BH90 backhoe sure looks more like the machine that could take me to my grave...in 50 years from now naturally. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hopefully I will come to my senses before I trade the B2910 in on a 3430...would it be better to trade with a year left on the warrenty? Guess that is a question better left for a new thread after I get back to the States... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
