...........Toilet was a total loss. I wanted to recoup some of my loss by putting it on the porch and planting flowers in it, but my wife wouldn't let me.

I wanted to do the same with one that I have in the garage. It is a perfectly good toilet, but I never got around to installing it. When I built, I made provisions in the garage for a toilet and also the cellar. Just never got around to building the facilities, so I wanted to plant flowers in it. That idea got nixed immediately. Women have some reason to want to hide a toilet, and men can see other uses for items than those that they were originally intended for. Still might just do it one day when she isn't around and look for that approving smile when she comes home.:D :D :D

Haven't seen it mentioned but...

The days of the wax ring are numbered. Fernco has a "waxless toilet seal". It glues to the bottom of the toilet and fits down the drain fitting, has a couple sorta flexible flanges that makes the seal. I will never again screw around with wax.

Harry, that Fernco Wax Free Toilet Seal looks pretty good. The first time I ever replaced a wax seal, I had no idea what I was doing and bought the cheap one that was only a wax ring. It leaked, so then I bought one that had the plastic flange in it and that's all I've ever used since and never had one leak.

Several years ago, a friend and neighbor called to ask if I could help him because his little grandson had flushed a hairbrush down the toilet and it was stuck. Getting the toilet up and outside wasn't too bad, but that darned hairbrush was securely wedged in the trap in the toilet and wouldn't come out. So with me holding the toilet and him trying to pull the brush out, and the toilet being damp, he pulled it out of my hands and when it hit the ground, it shattered into many pieces. But the brush was still securely wedged in one of those pieces.:D So a brand spanking new toilet was easy to install.

Mornin Bird,
Gee I would have liked to be a fly on the wall for that operation !!:) :D

Thanks so much for all the fast help.. At this moment it has almost become a comedy of errors.. My hacksaw was so old that the plastic handle started falling apart when I started cutting.. So off the walmart for another, but walmart was sold out of the $5 hacksaws - they only had a $25 hacksaw that going to be too thick for what i needed.. So drive 30 minutes to a bigger town and lowes. The good thing is lowes had a handle that held a hacksaw blade for working in close quarters which will work better..

I also got the toilet clearing tool, but hadnt had any luck snagging the 'end' yet.. I like the drimmel tool idea, that may work better than the hacksaw..

I will tackle getting the toilet up tonite when my wife will be home to help hold toilet.. Ill let you know how it comes out (pun intended LOL)

Again, thanks for ALL the great help in such a short time frame..

thanks

Brian

The comedy of errors continues.. But the good news is that the first wand end is out of the commode.. It was right at the end where the commode connects to the plumbing..

The bad news is that the reason the screws were turning when I was loosing them to take the tank off is that the plumber did not set the ring properly so the slots are at (3 and 9 o'clock).. The end of the slots are at about 8 and 2 oclock, which causes the bolts to turn freely... And the mounting ring is screwed to the floor AND glued to the rest of the plumbing so my idea of rotating the mounting ring didnt quite pan out like i planned... So now its time to figure out how to set the screws at 3 & 9 and to keep them from turning..

Ill keep you updated..

Brian

BTW - thank goodness we have 3 bathrooms.. LOL
