Used oil disposal ideas on ways of uses?

All you need to do is drip the oil on the fire and it will burn.
Use some small copper tubing and a valve. One of the secrets to getting oil to burn well is preheating the oil. the Mother Earth unit wraps the tubing around the flu several times to heat the oil.

If you do an oil drip on a wood burner you've gotta be carefull not to get it real hot. You don't want the creosote in the flu catching fire.

Do a search for Mother Earth and you'll find the plans online for a straight oil burning furnace.

That stove looks great! Do you think there would be any problem using synthetic oil in it?

Thanks for the link,
Bob

As long as its dirty, its the contaminates that actually make it burn good.

Can the oil be cleaned and re-used? I think I've heard of systems for hydraulic oil. Not sure about motor oil.

I found a way to use some used oil. I bought a lawn roller. Instead of using sand, or fluid that you have to drain out I used old engine oil. Heavier than water and will not freeze.

I know in big machinery like Loaders and Dozers they sometimes use used motor oil. Also in a skidsteer they normal don't change the hydraulic oil bit every 200 hours and in the B2910 it says to change at 50 hours. Just some ideas.

Excellent idea for use, but I believe that oil is actually lighter than water. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Shady,
I'm the one that started the home made oil furnace discussion last winter. I was looking for a way to use my used oil as well and heat my somewhat insulated poleshed/shop. If you build this style heater you don't want to leave it unattended. It will get cherry red and provide a lot of heat. I think I posted pics of my modified burner. This summer I am putting a ceiling in my shop to contain the heat and a cheap ceiling fan to move it around. I also put a shround around the heater so I can put a fan nearby to move the collected heat around the shop. It was a fun project and cheap to build. I think the most expensive part was the stove pipe for my chimney.
Get creative,
Nick
