Used oil disposal ideas on ways of uses?

You are right. I sure would have thought it was heavier. I guess when you get water in your engine oil it always comes out of the drain plug first. My mistake.

Nick can you think of anyother type of containment vessel to use as the heater's core. I'm coming up empty on old furnaces and waterheaters. I know of a salvage yard that has some heavy guage piping and possibly other structural componets any idea on how thick of material it would have to be any metal to steer clear of??

Don't use galvanized, it will give off toxic fumes when heated.

we have multiple diesel truck and car vehicles for bussiness and also we tractor pull which generates about 5-10 gallon a weekend or more with about a gallon of alky mixed into the mix.

Shady,
I would estimate the walls on mine are about 1/8 inch thick. Don't really need any thicker, seems to hold up just fine. While I'm working in the shop this winter with my heater, I am going to design a furnace with heat exchanger tubes running through the top half to get more of the heat out of it. Seems to be a lot going out through the chimney. Burner design is working well, easy to clean very simple/durable. I stayed away from the gun type of heaters because I hear stories of them constantly plugging up. I'm not a big fan of more maintenance than I already have. I am going to have a local fab shop roll me the tube about 2' in dia for the main body of the furnace and weld in my own cross tubes, door, etc. You want to make sure your interior air intake pipe and funnel go right down over the burner so the intake air gets right to the fire. That's where the heat is most intense. Once it gets started and draft takes over you would be amazed at the amount of air this thing will pull in and down the center tube. I like to mess around with projects like this and can't wait to build my next one. Always trying to upgrade as I go. Soon it will be too warm in my shop /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif (not in WI !! )

I collect waste oil from people at work and neighbors and give to my f-i-l and they use it in a large waste oil furnace to heat the 50X85 shop.
I put it in barrels and use the SSL to load 6 or 8 up at a time and they bring back some empties.
Many shops burn oil and will take ALL they can get.
A local trucking company will come and pick it up in barrels.
Ask around and u can find some people to take it too plus the new friend might come in handy if it's a welding shop or ag dealer.
