Soundguy, I can tell you know your stuff about tractors, especially Fords. Your advice registers high with me.

some people may do it and get away with it.. just something i'm personally not going to do.

At least one study showed adding used oil to ULSD makes no real difference in lubricity.

Adding anything to ULSD requires caution. Things like this that were done routinely in the past, are often no longer are a good idea.

if nothing else.. many 'addatives' like that are not 'approved' anyway..

As others have stated.. if its lubricity that your looking for, just add a shot of 2 stroke oil..

Years ago, when injection pressures were lower, many people poured all their waste lubes into the diesel fuel tank, oil, atf, some gear lube, etc...
As injection pressure have exponentially increased for power/epa reasons.... the suspended solids in all these oils becomes EXTREMELY abrasive.

Some people still do it though....

Soundguy:

I am with you on mixing used engine oil with diesel fuel. If you do not have a problem why create one.

"Large ships have large marine diesels (sometimes called cathedral engines due to their size run on heavy fuel oil (sometimes called "bunker oil"), which is a thick, viscous and almost flameproof fuel which is very safe to store and cheap to buy in bulk as it is a waste product from the petroleum refining industry. The fuel must be heated to thin it out (often by the exhaust header) and is often passed through multiple injection stages to vaporise it".

One of these engine would probably consider used motor oil an outstanding upgrade in fuel.

You know what they say about GI's and idle time. We tried to ignite some Bunker Oil one time. Finally used a White Phosphorus Grenade (Wille Peter).

1*I have never used heating oil in any of them...don't want issues to start now.
2*I probably should scrap this idea. No harm done, just thinking outside the box.
1*How do you do that where there is just 1 fuel ULSD?
2*Sounds like that would be a winner to me,

LBrown59, I wasn't sure if current heating oil is ULSD. Some of my diesels I've had since 1998. And I know heating oil back then was not ULSD nor was it usable in trucks. So all I was trying to say is, in all my diesels, I have only burnt pump diesel. In the winter I usually add powerservice or howes. And that is what I will continue to do.

The only fuel available since last year is ULSD excep in rare situations.
