I give mine to various places with waste oil burners. They aren't supposed to burn hydraulic fluid though. :shhh:

I recently did the major fluid changes on tractor and RTV. I went to county s
disposal and told him I had about 8 gallons of used hydraulic fluid. He told me to dump it in with the motor oil? So I did.

Those old buildings still being in good shape, is MUCH more about the OLD GROWTH timber they were built out of, than what they were painted with!

I mix old oil with diesel and undercoat my dump trailer a couple-3 times a year.

How do you guys dispose of your used oil? I was quoted a price of $50.00 to take my oil. They used to take it for free.

Both Advance Auto and AutoZone take it here. Of course, you have to carry it in. Think they'll pour it for you, but I always just carry the container back and pour into their tank.

I can remember when the county would spray used oil on the dirt roads in summer months to keep the dust down. That ended sometime in the 70s with the creation of the EPA. I put mine in 30 gallon barrels and take it to one of the local oil change places when I get around to it.

Seems like it varies across the US.

But I still despise of places refusing to take used motor oil or giving folks a hard time about it.

Very few folks know, but fresh motor oil is not "new" motor oil. Depending on the formulation, there is between 2-5% of used oil mixed in. Obviously it's been treated, filtered and reformulated. It's part of the "energy/resource" conservation efforts (ya know, set forth by the EPA).

I'd imagine some would be annoyed if you mentioned using it along the perimeter of buildings to deter weeds and insects.

A friend of mine and his father own an auto repair place. They drip the used oil into a stove in their shop in the winter.

I had a setup like that several years ago in my shop. Allows the use of poor quality wood and getting BTUs from the burning oil.
