Used PT's

Re: Used PT\'s

Fast shipping well that's good to know. I ordered the
1 13/16ths single from Northern a few days ago. Since I noticed the loose articulation, my baby has just been sitting there.

Ohh well, It has given me time to finally cut some rubber gas line down the middle, and line the inside cutout where my hydraulic hoses extend to the front bucket. I Joined the ends and seems with gorilla glue. Hopefully it will stay in place, and protect the hoses from any premature wear. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Used PT\'s

BobRip,
I bought my 425 used so I never got to take a class. It also did not come with a manual and the guy I bought it from only told me about the half dozen or so grease zerks. I have had the tractor 2 years and have noticed the past few months a lot of "slop" in the articulation. Can you point out the bolts that should be tightened on a regular basis? I have attached a photo of my 425.
Thanks,
-Tim

Re: Used PT\'s

The only one that I tighten is the bottom center articulation nut. It's just above the bottom grease fitting in the center of the tractor. I have never tightened anything else. Of course it does not hurt to check the tightness of other bolts.

line the inside cutout where my hydraulic hoses extend

I highly urge anybody that has not yet done this to do so!!!! I finally did this myself a few months ago and the hoses on the right side were badly worn and I probably should replace them.

See that big nut right below the blue sleeve that protects the hydaulic lines? That's the culprit. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Used PT\'s

There is a thread around here from last year somewhere were we were discussing hose protection. As another option, J.J. said you can buy hydraulic hose protectors, and I believe it might have been Spiffy that suggested some sort of automotive rubber molding you could buy, and use to line the inside with.

That may be easier, I just never got around to buying any. I already had the rubber gas line laying around. Farmall did you glue your lining or just lay it in there. In addition to gluing I also rubbed a little grease on the hoses where they rub as not to tug at the lining.

Re: Used PT\'s

I checked my PT yesterday and could not feel any slack in this nut. I am going to buy a 1 13/16" wrench today, to see if I can tighten this nut at all.
Do I need a backup wrench? or is the bolt welded to the frame ?, or is it a carriage bolt? or ...what ??.
I only have one strong hand, I had surgery on the other hand and it is still too tender to use for heavy duty anything.
If I need to buy 2 wrenches I will. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I just can't remember what the bottom of that bolt is like. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
