ewoss3 - You don't understand /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif...

My EarthForce is silver and black, like all the other ones. I wanted it painted pink, and Harv agreed to do it, but it was taking him so long to get to it that I complained, so several others said they would help him. But it's still silver. This has been my only real major disappointment with TBN - everything else I've ever asked for from the guys here, they've always come through for me, but not this time... /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

<font color=blue>Well the authentication is such that while it may pop up more than once, for most people it won't after it pops up once... </font color=blue>

Its popped up 3 time so far for me. Too bad answering it twice doesn't count. I was hoping to skew things in my favor. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

<font color=blue>In other words, he may know that one member has an EF-5 or another may live in Frost, Texas, but there is no way to trace either one to their income or marital status.</font color=blue>

Harv,
Not sure I totally agree with that. I had the "pop-up" survey request and filled it out several days ago. A few minutes ago, I clicked on Muhammad's link in the top post and it brought up the survey complete with the answers that I had given it when I had filled it out. I even went back and cleared my history, disk cache and memory cache to make sure it wasn't pulling up the stored page from my computer, went back and tried again with the same results. It may have cookied my computer, but somewhere, somehow, the survey software knows me (or at the least, my computer) and the answers I gave are stored.

BTW, I didn't mind answering the survey at all.

Hoss,

The program is working as it should, but again it is not identifying you but just that you are the same "user" that filled it out before.

A cookie tracks your submission, and also allows you to go back and change your answers if you choose to do so, and that way it won't count as two submissions... only one, and the end result is a more accurate survey.

Thanks again for participating...

Muhammad, that thing has popped up for me at least 4 times. I filled it out the first time. Kinda feel like getting a kids dart gun and start shootin' at it. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Muhammad...

No offense... it's very irritating like an annoying pop-up as on other sites... it just doesn't know when to quit... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

By the way... exactly what is the point of this vast survey anyways...?

I'm relatively new here but I think the idea is to get more on the website that people want. I took the survey, and it popped up a couple more times. It really didn't bother me to much. I'm just happy someone cares what I think about the site. I've been on many sites that don't. So I'll say thanks for asking. John no offense to you, you were just last on the list. Kent

Kent...

See what happens when you get on the "bottom" of somebody's list.... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

John, Muhammed mentioned that it tracks by using cookies. Is it possible that it keeps popping up on you because you're not logged in?

   / User Survey #30
I was prompted at every PC I use (I always login to TBN). I filled in the survey the first time I was prompted. I've never been prompted again on that PC which means, I assume, the cookie was set. On the other machines, I was prompted multiple times until I clicked on Exit Survey (upper right hand corner) versus just closing the survey window.

Ben...

Then it wouldn't be an "anonymous survey" then... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

No, it doesn't track your name, username, or e-mail address in any way. It is in fact an anonymous survey.

The technology that controls the pop-ups is not going to always keep the pop-ups from coming up, since different browsers and ISPs do things different ways. Cookies vs no cookies, and static vs dynamic IP addresses will make a difference between one user filling out the survey once and then never being prompted again, and another user being prompted every day.

We are working on this, so you will not be prompted after you complete the survey. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

<font color=blue>Then it wouldn't be an "anonymous survey"</font color=blue>

It can still be anonymous if it simply pays no attention to who you are, as I suspect it does. Of course that means we would have to trust Muhammad that that's the case. Maybe we need another survey -- anybody here not trust Muhammad? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Muhammad has a zillion tidbits on all us folks... I'd bet he knows our habits better than we do... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

The is one of the unique things on this site... it invokes trust of each of our members to a certain degree...

Muhammad has my vote of confidence as well as most of our members... /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
