Oil & Fuel Using 3/4ton diesel to carry B7510?

The weight should be well within the load capacity of the truck. Use a free standing ramp to load and back on. Like backing the truck into a ditch. Make sure there is additional support for the wheelwells when the tires go over them. Place a sheet of 3/4 plywood vertical and high enough to cover part of the rear window. Let the bucket rest on the lowered tailgate. Make sure the wheels are chocked so there is no movement.

As for balance just check out the same truck with a slide in camper on it.:D

Biggest problem will be proper tie downs so the tractor can not move ahead when the brakes are applied.

I think this can be down if you understand the situation. The tractor weighs about 1300-1400#. Within the limit of the truck (I agree not the tailgate straps). People buy and use all the time these racks that go on TOP of a pickups bed that will hold 2 atvs. ATV's these days run in the 600+# range each (then add in the weight of the deck). This weight is all above the bed of the truck.

As mentioned I also agree tieing down could be an issue, the bulkhead of my F250 is paper thin. But if you are just moving the tractor a short distance, farm to farm, etc, and you drive in an understanding manor....it could be done.

Good luck,
Rob

The bare tractor is about 1400#, the loader is about 500#, the loaded tires will be about 300#, the rear ballast about 400#, fuel about 50#, etc. So the tractor will be about 2600# as the poster described it. My dads is about 2700# all ready to work with the FEL.

Let's don't go to overboard. :) :) He hasn't got a FEL yet and that can be removed, carried in the trailer. No mention of loading the tires or a ballast box. Mowers can also be loaded in the trailer also. Over on my SD forum plenty of guys say they have loaded their trucks with 3000# of rock. NOT saying I agree with that but they are still living. :(.

Short trips, no long roadies. Here is a link to the ATV carrier. Says they weigh about 200#.

I have been watching this thread and I would like to see some pictures if possible and please remember the tailgate won't hold much.
The unit beside the truck would be fine and is the width of tires going to fit between the fenderwells?

This seems to be a no-brainer, hz293. You love your tractor and your truck. Your wife loves you...we assume. To keep you and your favorite tools from being dented, dinged or destroyed; the trailer seems the smart way to go. Compared to what you have been spending money on, trailers are relatively cheap....consider them an inexpensive way to avoid disaster and keep everything looking new. One mistake on the highway with what you're proposing could cost far more than a trailer.

Turns out a friend of mine has a dual axle trailer. It's amazing how you make better friends once you get a tractor. Heck, after all the info about the danger of using my pickup, no way I'd be doing that.

I'm glad to hear that you have a trailer you can use. That is the best way to go. Reading the posts on here I can't imagine anyone would recommend you haul it in the truck. I guess some people do... I can assure you I never would. I still don't see how it would even fit unless maybe the FEL was removed.

Ohh well... use the trailer and have fun!

I wouldn't do it myself; my b8200 is a comparable sized tractor, and is too long with the loader on, and I have a trailer...

However, if you could tie off the tractor, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Look at 3/4 tons hauling 11' cabover campers around these days. Talk about top heavy high center of gravity! I had an old early 70's 11' cabover, fully self contained. I hauled it with my old '89 F250 4x4 all over the western states and parts of Canada. That tractor is just a newer version of my old B8200. That weight would be no big deal. Now days they have even bigger campers, with slide-outs like the big RV's 8-}

I would be more concerned about actually getting the tractor in the truck, and securely tying it off. Most trucks these days do not have decent rope tie downs, much less chain points.

My question has to do with carrying it around in the bed of a 3/4 ton Ford F250 diesel. Based upon gentle prodding from my wife, I promised that besides the FEL and brusher that there'd be no more spending for awhile.

This leads me to believe an FEL is involved. I am mainly pointing out that the bare tractor weight is not the deciding factor. If the FEL is part of the package then you do not unload tires, drain fuel etc, so the tractor even stripped down will be heavier than the specs show. Another issue is there are no proper tie downs in the average pickup. All that being said; I would rent a trailer before I would load it into a pickup box.
