Using a hydraulic motor as a pump?

Has anyone tried to use a hydraulic motor as a pump? Did you have any success?

Yes, it's indeed possible. You may still want to check the literature on said motor.

I have two Parker F11 piston motor/pump on my homemade backhoe. One is being used as the pump for the Aux circuit, while the other is being used as a motor on the hydraulic brush cutter.

I've also used gear pumps as motors in the past. Being able to reverse direction, depends on the design of the pump though and if it allows for that or not.

What type of motor do you want to use as a pump? Frequently pumps will have a larger port for inlet or suction and smaller port for pressure or work while motors typically have two ports of same size. This limits how fast you can spin a motor as a pump without cavitation or starving the pump for oil.

I’m not sure what type motor it is. I know it came off a drill fill auger. I have a homemade 4x8 end dump trailer with a hydraulic lift. I was thinking of using the motor for a pump for it. I was going to go direct from a 3 1/2 hp gas motor to the motor/pump. I didn’t want to spend a lot on the project so I’m trying to find some low cost ideas. It doesn’t need to be fast as it’ll only get used once in awhile around my yard.
As you can tell, I’m very new to the hydraulic world, so any help or advice would be appreciated.

Try to figure out any markings on the motor before spending too much time with it. Even posting some pictures helps, as someone could be familiar with that motor and know exactly what it is.
