Using dyed diesel in a pickup truck

I was riding to work one day in West Virginia in my gasser, and there was a checkpoint just like the sobriety checkpoints. There was a big sign that said ALL DIESEL VEHICLES STOP AHEAD. Glad i didn't drive my truck that day. Not that i run any red diesel.
I do however cut my diesel with Kerosene in the winter which will show a slight red tint. I wonder how that is handled????

Where I come from there is off road gasoline that is dyed. We call it purple gas. Farmers buy it in bulk. Trucks with farm plates can burn it as long as they are on fam business.

My info may be out of date! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Isn't it wonderful we live in such a free country and we have all these wonderful civil servants looking out for us. I think they need to start a few more agencies. Maybe they could start taxing used cooking oil and have inspectors check to see if your exhaust smells like french... errr freedom fries. I know we need to pay taxes but the gusto that some regulatory agency will go to, to make sure that we criminals..I mean Americans..I mean North Americans.. I mean citizens.. or whatever we are in todays polically correct world, do not break the rules. BTW what are we now... lets face it..I'm confused /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Why? Are you absolutely sure?

After September 1, 2006 it will not matter at all since ULSD will be the only fuel commonly available in either dyed or un-dyed flavors. All the dye will signify is that no Federal road tax has been paid.

That is my understanding as well. BTW, I have a friend of mine who lives out the road and he farms part time. He has run his off road diesel in his pickup for almost 15 years now and has never been stopped. On the other side of the coin, I know some guys who are into showing horses and they get the giant Q tip treatment several times a year. Apparently the DOT people just sit at the entrance of the shows and take a swab out of everyone's tank that enters. If you pull out of line and turn around, they have a mobile unit just for you. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'm told that they catch several people at each show. I dunno what the fines are etc., and I'd rather not ever find out.
