Has any one tried using mulching blades with a collection system? Last year I bought a Trac Vac system on e-bay, I have been using it on leaves this fall. I am very happy with the results. I'm wondering how it will work with mulching blades. I already have a set . Has anyone tried it.

I use gator blades with my trac vac. Seems I get a finer chopped output so they work good for me. This fall has been so dry in the midwest that the leaves almost turn to powder when vac'ed.

Just a tip. Vac the leaves when they are wet. Not soaked, just **** from like the morning dew, or a heavy frost. They don't blow away then, and they pack in 3 times as good, because they are flexible and compress tight in the hopper.

mulching blades are set up to cut the blades of grass "twice" with the result that the resultant "mulch" can remain on the lawn without concern. The penalty is the need to run at a lower ground speed so the bi-level blade edge can do its thing. If you are vacuuming up the cut grass, the benefit of the mulching blade seems of little value and you pay the speed penalty. That said, if the blades you have are mulching blades, it doesn't seem that you couldn't use them. If there is a any concern with a mulching setup and a vac it is not the blades, but the special airflow inserts on the underside of the mower deck, which might fight the vac air flow.
