Using off-road diesel on road

Hypothetically speaking

, if someone were to turn someone in for running off-road dyed fuel on-road, who would you turn them into? Would it be department of taxation or Department of transporation?

I can't believe you posted this. Not knowing all the details, I'll admit I don't and don't want to. But if it's a domestic squabble sounds like someone is having to get down low and dirty to jump on untaxed fuel to win a family battle.

I know folks that run pink fuel on the highway. It's none of my business. Live and let live. What goes around comes around. Just my way of thinking on the fuel part of the subject. I stand by that too.

The DOT would be the agency that would handle this and the IRS is the agency the would do a tax audit. But thats just hypothetically speaking. Why stir up crap! Let it be.

From Washington State, where a company was fined big $$$$$. This is a site from Arizona telling how they deal with it. It appears that if you get caught with red dyed fuel in your on road vehicle, you are in for some big trouble. I had heard, but never was able to confirm it, that during the fuel shortage last year, the federal government gave an exemption and allowed the red dyed fuel to be sold to over the road trucks. I wonder how long the red dye will last in the fuel if you were to use it once and then start using the taxed fuel again?

I have heard that DPS troopers will sometimes show up at cattle and horse and farm equipment auctions and check truck tanks in the parking lot. So I guess the DPS would be the responsible party. That may be just coffe shop talk though.
Would you turn in someone who you knew was not paying federal income taxes? Same thing. Anyone not paying taxes gets a free ride subsidized by those who do. Would I do it? Annoying as it is, I would probably not unless I had a really good reason.

Obviously we differ in opinions on what to do with tax cheats who push their fair share of the tax burden onto honest people.

The reality is YOU and I are paying HIGHER taxes because of the jerks who refuse to pay the legal taxes. Now we can get into a whole discussion on if the tax is legal, or we can get into a discussion about if the tax is fair, but those are not the point of this issue. This issue, as outlined by "jstewar" is a simple issue of someone who is not paying tax when other honest people are paying it. And that means that the state department of revenue is not getting all the tax dollars it should be getting so the budget of that state may end up being short if the problem becomes a common problem, which will lead to another tax increase, and a bigger burden on the honest people.

You always know the right thing to do, the hard part is doing it.

Personally, I choose not to be a thief and steal from my neighbors. People running dyed fuel in their tanks illegally might as well just come an siphon some fuel from my tanks because any way you look at it, they are thieves stealing from me; they should be treated as thieves.

Just my opinion, and I stand by it
