Obviously we differ in opinions on what to do with tax cheats who push their fair share of the tax burden onto honest people.

The reality is YOU and I are paying HIGHER taxes because of the jerks who refuse to pay the legal taxes. Now we can get into a whole discussion on if the tax is legal, or we can get into a discussion about if the tax is fair, but those are not the point of this issue. This issue, as outlined by "jstewar" is a simple issue of someone who is not paying tax when other honest people are paying it. And that means that the state department of revenue is not getting all the tax dollars it should be getting so the budget of that state may end up being short if the problem becomes a common problem, which will lead to another tax increase, and a bigger burden on the honest people.

You always know the right thing to do, the hard part is doing it.

Personally, I choose not to be a thief and steal from my neighbors. People running dyed fuel in their tanks illegally might as well just come an siphon some fuel from my tanks because any way you look at it, they are thieves stealing from me; they should be treated as thieves.

Just my opinion, and I stand by it

Have a discussion? LOL I've seen that tried before. It never ends. I hope you don't ride along the highway with your cell phone calling the state police every time you see some person going over the speed limit a few MPH. But I get the feeling that you might. I have some neighbors I'd like to see you report for pink fuel and let them find out you did. LOL Live and let live. That's all I have to say on this subject. Have a nice day, Over and out.

It's a legitimate question. Nice of him not to bring up the specifics. ;)

When I read the post the specifics were there or part of it was. That's the ONLY reason I replied in the first place. It's like if I can't get you on on thing I'll get you on another. Family matters.

Speeding? No, that doesn't affect my pocketbook if people speed.

Screw around with taxes, not pay your fair share, yup I've been called a lot worse than a jerk. I don't care. And people have learned the hard way not to mess with me and mine. We all have to take a stand. Some of us take that stand when there is a clear issue of right and wrong. Do wrong and I tend to get involved. Don't care if you like it or agree with it. But I sure don't condone anarchy where people flaunt the law, cheat and steal. I guess we have different standards.

I have a 500 gal. tank for off road diesel. I also own two diesel autos. I do not use the off road fuel in my on road vehicles. There are people who do. Thats their choice. Do I try to catch them and turn them in? NO! As long as I know I am doing the right thing. Thats all that matters to me.

And speeding does affect your pocketbook. There are more accidents and therefore your insurance cost are higher.

I hesitate to respond here, but I can't help myself. Bob may not pretend to like me anymore, but here goes. I know a guy who has only run dyed fuel in his pickups for years. I could care less, because the truth is they are farm trucks and I think they should be exempt anyway. He rarely gets more than 60 miles from home with them and has little chance of getting caught. Numerous times as fuel has climbed he has tried to convince me to put a bulk barrel in and he'd have fuel delivered for me so I could avoid the tax. I always politely decline. I primarily haul show horses all over the Midwest and would be BEGGING to get caught. On top of that, I am NOT a farmer and don't feel entitled to avoid the tax. Aside from the tax skirting, he is as good a person as I know. He'll drop anything at any time to help me in a jam, including driving 150 miles round trip to rescue my family and the horses when my old pickup broke down. The guy is a single father of two teenagers working his tail off to manage everything alone, since his last wife decided the farm was not for her... naturally this was right after he bought this nice Ranch House/Farmstead for her and her boys. I know he sorely misses her $32,000 teacher salary, but that's a whole different negative discussion. He's paying his dues in other ways in my eyes so I just let it be. I'd be willing to pay a little more to cover his taxes. OK Bob, I'll get off my soap box now...:D

Dirtworks posted while I was typing.... had work to do in the middle of it... I agree with him. Even if I had the tank, I would not do it, but I am not runnin around tryin to be the Fuel police either....in regards to someone else's comments... I do know that out here it used to be common for the "fuel police" to show up at sale barns and check pickups as they unloaded livestock. This was way back when the laws first changed. I have not heard of this happening in years though. There was speculation it would happen again last year as fuel prices climbed, but I have no knowledge of someone gettin caught.

Please make a list of everyone you know that is running off road fuel in an on road vehicle and email it to Bob so that he can send it to the proper authorities and make the USA a better place for us all. Im tired of the high price of fuel.

Thanks, I'll be sure to forward them on as is appropriate. Kindly indicate the name and address of each offender in large type or plain printing, my eyes are not what they used to be.

rback33 . . . everyone knows someone with some sort of sob story. Doesn't make what they are doing right.

And while we are all human and we all screw up, we need to realize that we are responsible for our own actions (at least we are in most states, but places like California and Taxichussetts might have differing views on who is to blame when an individual screws up so it might actually be "society's fault" in those states).

True. So do you make sure they every single mother of 3 waitress reports ALL her tips from her waitress job as well? I agree that it's not "right," but there are bigger fish to fry out there. I am MUCH more concerned about the Meth cookers that live halfway between his house and mine. I keep hoping they'll blow up again....

Oh and insert smiley faces as needed Bob... :), but that's as big as I can make it.

I don't go out of my way to enforce any law, but if someone is so bold as to flaunt it in front of me, brag about it, and be a jerk . . .
