Using tractor hydraulics to lift rear off ground?

I’d recommend just getting the bottle jack. Even if you manage to get the wheel off getting it back on without precise height adjustment is pretty much impossible.

You could plug a hydraulic cylinder or Jack into a rear remote, but that's about it.

I've used the loader to lift the front tires off the ground for chains or a flat a bunch & it works. But it will flop from side to side with just the weight of the chains & be annoying.

That front axle flopping from side to side is SUPER DANGEROUS in the context of lifting the rear. The front axle is just mounted on a pin & flops from side to side. If you jack the rear up on the center it will be balancing on that front pin & the jack. It's as likely to roll over on you as it would if you lifted the rear off the ground picking up something to heavy with the loader. All the stability of a tractor is because of the rear axle, not the front axle.

If you jack the rear appropriately near the flat tire & not the center you will be fine as long as you block the tires. It will do fine sitting on the front axle, 1 rear tire & the jack. There are no brakes on the front & you shouldn't rely on leaving it in 4wd to prevent the fronts from rolling.

Hello all,

I have a flat tire from the valve stem being pushed out from a branch that was run over. I was wondering with all of the hydraulics I have on my L3560 (front fel with grapple, rear lift arms, 2 rear remotes) is there a way to use them to lift the rear off the ground to aid in changing the tire. Mind you I do have a floor jack and a 20 ton bottle jack at home, but they are not with me at the site where I am clearing for my new home. I can go get them the is not an issue.

However, I once saw a fork lift mechanic use the mast to do what I am thinking about he used a chain and rigged it to lift the rear end of the fork lift to change the rear tire. It was 20 years ago I and I have no idea how it was rigged, but remember it being done.

Any ideas?

You don't have power-down with 3pt lift arms, so you can't use them to lift the machine.

You could put heavy beams (steel preferable) under the machine from rear to front, rig up some chains to fasten the beams to the 3pt arms, and then raise them. That would pry the rear of your tractor up off the ground.

But that whole thing is sketchy, and while quite doable if you're out in the middle of know where and desperate, if you have the proper tools, just go get them.

You could also chain a log that is 2' longer than the tire to the outside of the rim and then move forward and the log will lift you off the ground. But that is also sketchy, as we've seen videos of people doing that to get unstuck, and then getting hit by the log, or the tractor flipping over. Again, if you have the proper tools, just go get them.

Depending on where the tractor is call a tire service truck to it. You want a shop who services tractor tires. If the tire is filled they need to know that up front and what it is filled with. They may or may not be able to refill where it is.

No doubt you could use a hyd cylinder that is large enough to serve as a jack since you have the remotes. However it needs to be solid like a jack in no pivoting action to it. If you have tubing large enough for the cyl to sit in with access for the hoses and then had tubing to slip over that tubing with the tubing ends welding over with a flat plate you should have a safe jack. Just put cribbing under it very carefully and quickly. Of course the tubing must be strong.

Thank you all for your replies. I called a service truck, who wanted, get this...$ 105Hr from time of leaving shop to return to shop for the call. No thank you. I did in fact go home and get the Jack. I also had to buy a 3/4 breaker bar, extension and 15/16 socket to do the job. So for today's fun let the pictures do the talking. I still have to take the tire to to have the valve stem put in a inflated, but that's the easy part.

agree with Mossroad and just replace the tire valve. a dulled screwdriver and some lube you should be able to push one back in.
or buy the tool

After losing several rubber valve stems switched to bolt in valve stems. Use them on my trucks and trailers.
FYI the Kubota TLB have pipe rings welded around valve stems for added protection.

$100/hr isn't bad for shop time here somewhat near Denver. A decent mechanics truck or anything with a crane to deal with heavy tires is going to cost more than your tractor. I'm not much under that doing tractor work.
