USPS, Rural Deliveries ! UPS the BEST !

We've had 2 or 3 incidents where the USPS plain did not pick up mail that we had put into the mailbox with the flag up.

Thinking the government should go out on contract for private outfits to provide the mail, e.g. be allowed to collect and to put stuff into our mailboxes.

It seems most have the same opinions, 1) UPS, 2) FedX, and 3) USPS... FedX isn't too bad but sometimes they hire other delivery services and then things get dicey.

I too ask for UPS if it is available, even there is a difference n cost, but not too much.
If the Seller doesn't have a UOS agreement I think about finding the item elsewhere.

thanks for the replies !

That's what they do here. Delivery people are subcontractors, not USPS employees.

I live 'near' Scrambler82. USPS does not deliver packages, period. 2 miles to mailbox, then 6 more to post office to pick up package.

UPS delivers to door and rings bell. FedEx usually delivers to door and sometimes rings bell. USPS... well, they suck.

We have pretty good service (people) here I guess. I would rate them USPS, UPS, Speedy D, and Fed Ex. for ordering and getting packages. ALL of them set the package on the porch and they all are darn good.

UPS also now will deliver to my PO box. The oddity is that some things which can't be shipped through the mail can still be delivered to the Post Office via UPS.
It takes an extra day though, I will get the notice from UPS that my package was delivered but when I go to the Post Office they tell me that they can't process it until the next day.

All 3 has done well lately. I think we have a new mail person because it has improved.

Fedex is hands down the absolute worst here. Every delivery is rescheduled 2-3 times before it gets here.

We had a package delivered Friday night about 7pm, there was another package scheduled for delivery on Saturday. That package was rescheduled & we had to call FedEx because the driver couldn't find our house because our address didn't exist.

I ordered 2 tires for my hay wagon & after delivery was rescheduled 2x I got a text saying that they were delivered. When I got home guess what no tires.

When I went to check my cows that afternoon the tires were dumped in the road on the other side of the gate going into the pasture.

The picture of the wheel delivered be Fedex delivered damaged and the driver put it in the grass with the damaged side down so it wouldn't be noticed.

In my area, thru the years, Fedex and Fedex Freight are the company you want anything like a computer shipped to you by. Packages come with little or no rough handling scars. Next, USPS. Packages in pretty good shape usually. UPS, on the other hand, it is a crap chute. Anything from pristine to beat to heck.

We are not all that rural, living only ~1/2 mile off of the pavement, then our 700' gravel driveway. The local post office is 7 miles away.

We almost always have the electric gate closed. If we see the driver and open it, FedEx will usually drive down to the house and we meet them there. UPS almost never does that and most times comes very late, like 7pm. Plus every package that we get from UPS is covered with dirt from the unpaved roads and unsealed rear doors on their trucks. FedEx usually delivers by ~3pm and in our area uses rental vans with good door seals. We put a fairly large plastic storage bins just outside the gate for deliveries and that works pretty well when the gate is closed.

The absolute worst delivery services are those where FedEx and UPS hand off to USPS for final delivery. Those always take days longer and packages seem to sit without moving for days at a time.

My rating: FedEx, USPS, UPS, UPS SurePost, FedEX SmartPost

UPS is the best in my neck of the woods.

Just ordered a couple years worth of batteries for my flashlights (and getting another flashlight that looked like a very good deal for 24 bucks). Ordered them last Monday (7 days ago), slow as molasses for delivery because it seems now the big thing for some shippers to do is ship it third party BUT to the post office. Following the order online (we try to ensure we know the days when deliveries are coming in if all the dogs are outside with us so we know to be on the lookout for someone coming down the driveway) and the shipment didn't hit Raleigh before Sunday. For over 5 days the order just showed (ready for pick up which made no sense). I called sent off an e-mail on Friday and it was explained to me that they are using common carrier to the post office and when it showed "ready for pick up" it was in transit via the 3rd party common carrier.

LOL, just reading jgedmond's post above mine while typing this...
