V2203 Interchangeability

   / V2203 Interchangeability #11
I did a 1.7 liter to 2.2 liter Kubota conversion in a Kubota L2850 tractor and since it had a DI engine sought out a V2203DI engine from a refer to do the conversion which i have a lengthy thread over on orangetractortalk about it. I am confused about some of the talk here mainly jimglassfords post above. I recently bought a Bobcat CT450 essentially a Kioti DK50 and the engine looks identical to a Kubota but from the specs i look up shows the Daedong in my tractor to be a 2.4 litre and the V2203 is a 2.2 litre.

The Kioti DK50 had a 2.4L, But the Kioti DK45 had a 2.2L. There was a DK35, 40, 45, and 50, each with corresponding horsepower, but same transmission/tractor.

I would love to see a list of exactly what Daedong Metal provides for Kubota, because from what I've been able to gather at this point, is that Kubota is more Daedong than Daedong is Kubota.

I made an error in my comment about the engine in the DK50. I looked at the Tractordata web site and the DK55 is a 2.2 turbo, the DK50 is a 2.0 turbo and the DK45 is the 2.2 non-turbo engine.

I have a 2009 Bobcat CT450B which is a Kioti DK50SE and has a 2.4 l engine. DK50 was built through 2005 and the DK50SE started in 2007 and has the 2.4l.

The alphabet soup can get confusing with all the variables. No problem jim!

yes this, I should be more careful when mentioning the DK or DKse tractors as well.

Hey guys, sorry I've been absent from the thread I started. I haven't had a lot of time to work on the tractor, I'm building a house and thought the tractor would be a good project for my down time haha.

But I got the tractor split and the crank out.

The crank below the broken one is from a kubota v2203, and everything seems to measure pretty close to the same.

I have a week off of work and the wife said I don't have to work on the house over the holiday, so I plan on starting to reassemble the tractor. I'll keep everyone posted on how it works out.

So, of course I haven't been working on the tractor project as much as I wanted to, but I have made some progress. The crank is back in the block, rods connected to crank and front cover back on the block. A couple of things I have noticed as I am reassembling with Kubota parts and gaskets:
- At least with the gasket kit I purchased none of the O-rings seem to be the same size

- the front cover gasket is off a little bit in one area

- the head gasket has a copper ring where there is an alignment bushing while the stock one does not have it. The copper ring doesn't fit over the alignment bushing

- The crank has an extra ring pushed on to the flywheel side that makes the OD larger, this wouldn't work with the Kioti seal but the Kubota seal is larger for this extra ring

Everything else seems to be working though, all the crank and rod bearings were the right size and fit together as it should

I ran into the same issue with the front cover gasket and O-rings too when I ordered the gasket kit for A v2203 rather than a v1702 since I used the 1702 front cover on the 2203 block I had to order a gasket kit for the 1702. Wound up needing bits and pieces from each gasket kit and still needed to get several individually.

For anyone interested, I finished up putting the tractor together and I can officially say that the kubota v2203 crankshaft and bearings work perfectly in the 4a220 daedong engine. I would stay away from the gaskets and seals for the v2203 though because there are enough little differences to make them not work very well. For my first time working on a tractor, I think everything went pretty smoothly and I got to learn a lot like a 1.5" sink tailpiece extension works well for a spout on your hydraulic oil bucket lol.

It took longer than I wanted it to, but I guess you'll have that when you're in the middle of building a house too. I think I made out pretty well too, I have a running tractor with only 600 hours for a little over $3000 total invested.

Awesome stuff, thanks for taking the time to share this project. Really glad it worked out well.
