valvoline recycled oil

In the early 50's I worked at a gas station in western maryland, The owner had 50 gal drums behind the station where we would dump oil drained during oil changes. We were instructed to keep the drain pans/containers, clean and the drums were marked indicating which was the active dump drum. When a drum was full, it was sealed and would set for months without being disturbed. After the drum set, the owner would take a hand pump with a pickup pipe which reached about 3/4 down into the drum, pump the oild out into glass quart jars with a metal pour spout and cap and sell the oil for .25 a quart. The oil looked exactly the same as the new oil we sold. When I was finally able to purchase my own car, I used that oil for years. I have been told oil doesn't wear out, it simply gets dirty. I guess the oil in the drum set there until the solids settled to the bottom.

I think we have established that oil dosent wear out, but after sitting for months there is no additives put back into that oil though. I dont doubt you ran your car for years on it. I could run my car or truck on the syn i drain out of my wifes toyota at 6-10K and probly never have a problem either, but i dont do it. Its the mental your doing the right thing for my engine that keeps me from doing it.

Well my saturn and Ranger both burn and or leak so much oil that i really only might nead to drain it every 2 yrs after 20-25k miles, that and change a filter. But i dont i still change it like all vehicles to get that last bad out of it.

So...you're saying I will be "money ahead" by giving it away for free rather than using it myself? Yeah, I'm not buying that one. Sorry.
I dont buy it either. But he is giving the advice free -- so no buying necessary. Worth every penny.

If you call something "green, natural, or organic" you extend your market and can increase the price. Just be factual or you'll be in danger of, "false advertising" and liable for litigation from the government or a "damaged" customer!

Well I'm almost embarrassed to share this but around here we have to pay retailers to take back our used oil. I was paying .03 per liter (no big deal) but now they want 30 cents per liter to take my old oil.
I think I just might look in to building a little waste oil heater for my ice fishing shack.

Here in the US anyone almost will take it for free. I can take it to the county recycling center (we dont have home trash collection) slash trash collection. This is the place where we throw our trash and all recyclable materials including oil. You can throw plastic paper metal and everything. Of course the vendor that has the dumpsters either gets it for free im sure of very minimal cost which saves the state landfill space.

Or i can go into advance auto parts autozone, walmart, any of those stores have a like 500 gallon tank in the back that you can dunp old oil in. I think no matter where it is they limit you to 5 gallons per day.

I personally just keep a 5 gallon pail and dump old oil in it till its full than make a run, which is once or twice a year depending on when all the changes get done. It use to be more but when i went to Syn oil in the wifes newer car i extended the drain intervals, to save time money and the fact that they say you can.

free pickup around here, if it is not mixed with water.. otherwise they charge you for the water.

also can't have too high a fuel content.

When i dump at autozone they dont ask what the fuel content is nor do they do and Oil analysis on it. Just messin with you man, dont mean to be a jack @$$.

I really have no idea what the fuel content is. And i have to admit sometimes i leave the oil chage pan out in the rain so i do get some water in it. Never more than a qt or 2 im sure. But they dont see and i reall dont ask.

ours is picked up by a disposal service.

when they pump the tank if they hit water at the bottom they pump and measure it and charge you.

probably smell test on the fuel content. IE.. if it don't look like diesel and smell like they are pumping diesel.. they don't care.

think it is more for the hazmat plaq than anything.. ie.. diesel or diesel content is different flamability than used oil..e tc.

Re-refined base oil is probably not a bad thing----if it's done right. Everything has a cheapy way, and a good way. If all the impurities were removed, new additive put back, a balanced deal, probably not so bad a deal. I would still want Delvac, or Delo, or something similar, in my new John Deere.
