My place has been invaded by vasey grass. Two years ago it was limited to an area of roughly 1/4 acre; but this year it expanded to roughly 15 acres, with small clumps of it scattered across nearly all of my 86 acres ... I have no doubt the small clumps are the beginnings of large patches. Prior to the invasion, my biggest problem was a stretch of Johnson grass along a low drainage area where a culvert crosses the road and drains onto my property. The vasey grass is so tall and thick, that it renders the affected portions of my property unusable for retriever training, which is the primary purpose of this property.
Other than vasey grass and Johnson grass, I have a mix of bahia, bermuda, a little fescue and some broom sedge.
Although the property is for retriever training, a neighbor harvests the hay off it with two cuts a year ... the hay production is really not a concern of mine.
So how do I control the vasey grass?
Is there any way to limit the germination of the seeds already in/on the ground?
If I kill everything and plant a favored grass, I'm concerned that it will be a waste of time and money due to the seedbed ... right?
Or do I just plan to spend lots of time on the tractor with the bush-hog or sickle mower and not let the vasey grass get to an obnoxious height?
I appreciate your thoughts.

A weed wick with a 50% Glyphosphate mix will work on the existing Vasey grass without damaging the other desirable grasses by simply wiping over it, Impose herbicide will smoke it but it may also get the Bahia grass so you will need to read the label on that, the herbicide called Target (MSM) will also clean up a field of Vasey grass and sand spurs, etc but it does contain Arsenic and they don't recommend feeding any hay out of a field treated with it, but IMO nothing will clean up a coastal bermuda hayfield better. Vaseygrass is tough but can be brought under control with these methods, I'm sure there are also other ways that others may be able to elaborate on.

Other then herbicide, mowing it steadily would be the first step, it will avoid the plant to germinate and expand... improving soil fertility and seeding tall legumes to suppress and suffocate the invasive species is also a effective (but expensive) method.

I think have the correct herbicide but you read it carefully. It is not approved in some areas but it will kill vasey and not harm bermuda.
