There is a difference though, Jeff Foxworthy is funny when he talks about hunting. He plays off the stereotypes for the joke. However, he is an actual hunter who enjoys the outdoors and isn't in it for cabin parties. All you have done is repeatedly talk about how stupid we are for hunting.

As for a disclaimer, if you are being funny you do not need one. If you are trying to make a point or push your own feelings on others a disclaimer is a convient way to mask your true intentions.

As I had said in my first post, why keep bringing this topic up unless you are trying to prove your point?

I am very involved here in New York with different groups and attend quite a few events where I get the joy of talking to idiotic people who know nothing of what they are talking about. After a while I get tired of it. The topic of this post is one that is brought up a lot by anti hunters. Why kill a poor little animal when you can buy food at a store /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Thanks for the psychoanalysis Robert. Didn’t know you had a PHD in psychology and mind reading.

I never said anyone was stupid for hunting. You said that.

I’m sorry you are unable to see the humor. Take a deep breath. Think logically for a moment. Take the chip off your shoulder. Most folks get it. You, for some reason, do not.

Have a nice day.

Aw, I chuckled. Look at the disclaimer and smiley /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif faces. I hunt, fish, hike, and found the post amusing.

Most of my stuff gets used a lot more years than he mentions, and for other stuff too. So my amount spent per year is a lot less. But... I know guys that go out and buy brand new stuff every year so they can have the latest gizmo's. Heck, there's a guy somewhere near Sacramento, who spent major $$$ a few years back, to have a Ford F350 crewcab dually 6x4 stretched into a limo. He tows a 5th wheel with it, and hauls all his buddies out duck hunting/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Here in PA the start of deer season is practically like a state holiday so your boss almost has to let you off if you want to go. I have two friends who went every year. The one guy has passed on now but when I knew him he used to hunt with a cane and liked to go into the woods and find a sunny spot and take a little snooze. The other guy still goes but he never makes it out of camp because he was up all night playing cards and drinking (are we allowed to mention b**r still?). I wonder what their cost per pound was. And say how did their wives know where they were if they never got a deer? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What might make everyone feel better is a couple of posts about what it costs to play golf, fish, motorcylce, fly, tractors, etc. The fact of the matter is everything you wish to do can get expensive. I, myself only invest $60 per year for a license and some fuel to hunt, well worth it to me.. Spent 7hrs in a tree today and didnt see the first deer.. Best day I've had all year..

Everyone has their own way of unwinding. When you bash something over and over, even if you used to do it, you tend to get irritating.

I personally cant stand the "you might be a redneck" stuff either, not because its not funny but because its old hat......

Ok then, I don't get it. Why post the fact you no longer hunt because it is illogical to you in this thread First thread then start another thread about how it does not make fiscal sense to hunt? I guess I fail to see the humor with the multiple threads.

I do not have any problems with your view on hunting. As I said before and will again, it made no sense to start a second thread about the fact you don't hunt and why it doesn't make sense for most people to hunt. Oh yeah, you were trying to be funny. I get it now /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Keep beating the dead horse, it gets funnier the longer it goes on /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Geeze. No bashing here. If you let a thread like this irritate you, what does that say about you? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Golfers spend a whole lot more than hunters I imagine. I have friends who regularly pay $100 green fees. Several of my buddies love their Harleys and have upwards of 30K in them. They call riding their "therapy". If you like it, do it. If you can't take someone poking a little fun at you, then you have a problem and you need to find a way to deal with it.

I like to people watch. Every deer season, I watch the convoy's of trailered 4 wheel ATV's and campers head down I-75 to the various and sundry hunting camps. I am a subscriber to Georgia Outdoor News. (You know what that publication is, don't you HGM?) I keep up with what is going on in the outdoor sportsman community. In my observation, the hunting industry, (yes, it is an industry) is becoming or attempting to become as high-browed as many percieve the golf community to be. Case in point, the corporate outing guide industry that advertises there. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Economic stimulation is a good thing. I also see the humor in it. It is much like the old Harley riding biker gang image of the past. Now, your Harley owners are middle aged guys and their wives, regular guys, doctors, lawyers and other professionals.

Another great thing about hunting in Georgia is the thinning of the deer heard. That results in fewer deer and less deer/vehicle collisions which results in cheaper auto insurance premiums for everyone. That's a very good thing. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

So, go ahead and fill your tags. It benefits everyone when you do. Just try not to be so thinned skinned. Thinned skinned hunters who get upset over little things like a thread on a tractor web sight serve to feed the anti-hunting people out there. Remember, you have the right not to read what I write. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I have thought about this myself and have not been able to spend such amounts on $$ on a western hunt with a clear conscience. We don't take several thousand dollar vacations or spend 10's of thousands on farm toys or new auto's either.
Here in WV the season limit is 6-8 if you pursue all seasons and tags for under $50.00. I by no license as a land owner and do not traveling or the other extra's mentioned. We process ourselves, not that difficult with a whitetail. I do feed my family with it and still have some roasts in the freezer but the primary reason I do it is for the joy of the outdoors.
As far a hunting now becoming high brow has anyone priced a double gun from an old English company or paged through an LL Bean catalog? I hunt in old jeans and Timberlands.
I am still researching a tractor purchase and TBN is a great asset for this with great folks. I too would like to see the tractor issue especially HP/acreage taken on in this way as I see many folks at a much higher ratio and many more attachments than I find the full time farmers in this area.

I'm not ofended, nor am I truely irritated. I see your point and agree for the most part. Thinigs have gotten very commercial. I too am a member of GON and see the articles in it every month. Like one of the other posters mentioned, I dont see the point of harping on it if you have no interest in it. Eithe one of your posts would have been fine, I actually like this one the best. Though I think one was enough, with two of them, it makes me wonder what your agenda is. It comes across pretty "anti". If I posted one about tree huggers, then another in a couple of days about the rational of PETA, you would get my agenda and be pretty clear where I stood.See the anti side of it?

I too like to people watch, as a hunter I see people all the time that spend alot of money on new stuff and do foolish things . End result not bagging any game, bottom line they fit an immage. If it makes them happy, I'm not going to make fun of them. As a biker, I see the same RUB(rich urban biker) thing going on. again, if it makes them happy.......... It also helps the economy, so bring it on.

I also agree the nation as a whole has become entirely too thin skinned. I dont believe I fit into this category though. With an internet post, you only have the impression given you by words, so maybe I appear to be. Your perspective, you dont hurt my feelings(gota have them to hurt them). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
