Hello to all,

Was changing the oil on my M5400, and noticed those **** dirt/mud daubers had plugged my vent lines. They filled the lines, and other small holes w a white crusty substance.

When i cleared the one that is basically under my seat, I heard pressure escape. Does anyone have a solution for this? Some type of cap w many sm holes would work. Any such thing around?

For all of the other small holes on my tractor, I think I am going to fill them w clear silicone. Anyone see this as a problem? It would seem that once filled and dried, it could easily be removed if required.

Thank you,
tstex

On certain orifices, I've used aluminum window screen after figuring a way to fasten it in place.

don't know about the hose sizes ... perhaps an aquarium air rock ....

air bleed valve fitting for pancake AIR controllers? ( brass with screens on them )

inline fuel filter.

All of the equipment on which I worked on the design we had filtered vents. The fuel tank vent on my new M135 GX was plugged with mud from the time it was delivered. I replaced the vent hose with a more substantial hose and added an in-line filter. Cat's recommendation for a fuel tank filter is 2 micron but I went with a 10 I had handy. At Cat we used 10 micron hydraulic tank vent filters. I do not understand why Kubota wants directly outside air sucked in when the system cools down but then again Cat has a 4,000 hour hydraulic oil change interval and Kubota has a 400.

inline fuel filter.

How is an in line filter going to stop a dirt dauber from plugging the hole of the filter. Maybe filter tip hole is too small for dauber to access? I'll vote for window screen on the hose.

if the hose is long enough ... bolt / golf tee in end ....cut some slits then wrap with screen ....and tie wraps...

Thanks guys, some good ideas...

I have some very fine wire mesh screen that I can fashion to fit the ends. I bought a 4-pak of those sm claps about 5-6 yrs ago thinking they would come in handy one day - they are the adjustable ones you tighten w a screw-diver...should be able to tighten the screen pretty securely. I might have to tie-strap the one that is near the oil-pan area so if it hits tall brush, it will not catch and be pulled off.

Lastly, these are only for air-flow and not any fluids, correct? Just want to make sure if I make a loop, nothing will get caught like a p-trap under the sink.

Thank you guys,

Extend the vents.
I slip a rubber hose over my hydraulic vent and ziptie it on to get the vapors and mist creep down underneath the tractor.
Front axle vent gets an extension up under the engine cowl to keep water and mud out of the axle.
Mud daubers will still find the end hole in the extension, but they stay near the end.
pull the extension hose off the factory vent once in a while and blow it out.
