Found a good solution...

Used the metal-type screen for windows. Cut them into 2" strips about 5/8" wide and just twisted them into the ends of the hoses...the ends are sharp and bite nicely into the hose ID. By pushing them 2" in, they are not coming out. Use gloves bc the ends of the screen are SHARP. At the end closest to the hole, you just fashion it where it blocks the hole. The screen is now too much for a dauber to get in, but the porosity of the screen will surely allow ventilation. BINGO !!!

or use the dollar store scrubbers ( kitchen green mesh rectangular pads ) cut into strips and do the same ....

I like the vents Toyota uses on their truck axles. They have a steel cap with a spring inside pushing a rubber seal. The steel stops anything from going back into the axle/ transmission. The gap around the cap is pretty small so nothing seams to mess with it. If they do stick you just simply twist the cap and free it up. They tend to rust after a number of years of driving on salty New England roads but for a tractor they are fine.

Of course you could use something like this as long as you know water will not be able to get sucked back into the hose.

I found one under the seat, one under the gas tank, one under the crankcase and another one along the engine side on the right side if you are sitting in the seat...I am not there so I will have to look again. Anyone else w either better eyes or their tractor closeby?

All of the equipment on which I worked on the design we had filtered vents. The fuel tank vent on my new M135 GX was plugged with mud from the time it was delivered. I replaced the vent hose with a more substantial hose and added an in-line filter. Cat's recommendation for a fuel tank filter is 2 micron but I went with a 10 I had handy. At Cat we used 10 micron hydraulic tank vent filters. I do not understand why Kubota wants directly outside air sucked in when the system cools down but then again Cat has a 4,000 hour hydraulic oil change interval and Kubota has a 400.

Both my M series tractors are 500 initial and then 1000.

How is an in line filter going to stop a dirt dauber from plugging the hole of the filter. Maybe filter tip hole is too small for dauber to access? I'll vote for window screen on the hose.

I have used the in tank ones that only have one end on them like this

If the get soaked with water or caked with mud you have to change them. You can also extend the hose and vent them to a spot where you would not have to worries about that
