Water above the axle won't do it. We went through that already.
Tell that to one of my previous trucks and see if it will believe you.

If you drill through the dipstick won't your vent essentially be under the oil level and if the pressure gets great enough won't it push oil out? Especially if you were working on level ground and parked it, I think you would find a puddle when you come back to it from out of your vent. I have been bouncing this thought around myself but for the mean time I have been doing the same as some others just cracking the cap loose when I'm done for the day.
I think there is a whole lot of something being made out of nothing regarding venting. Most full size tractors have a vented front axle and all it is, is a small fitting tapped into the dif case on the top. Does not stick up more than an inch. If you are running in water that reaches the top of the front axle you are going to have more problems than water in the front axle. Having pressure on the seals is not a good idea at anytime.
Because an engineer did not put one in the drawings does not mean it is not the best of ideas.
So you're saying that your truck leaked through the vent? How do you know? How do you know it wasn't the seals that were bad or some other place?
Did you look at the pictures in the thread I started? My axle had been vented since April and I go up and down my property at least once a week on it. Never had a problem. But when it was parked in 104 degree heat.... you can see the results for yourself. So what does that tell you? Cause I'm not entirely sure what it tells me. I'm all ears on suggestions cause I want this to work.Arrabil, Are you sure you have it right?
Yeah, which is exactly what we don't have here.is a small fitting tapped into the dif case on the top
Oh that is precisely what I'm going to do if I ever have to drain it to replace any seals or bearings!no one wants to drill a hole in the front axle
It was just Empirical Physics applied by an astute observer!
