Ventrac HG150 Generator Question

   / Ventrac HG150 Generator Question #11
Jack ,the 3000/3200 rpm on the Ventrac to get full output, is that with the Steiner generator on the Ventrac unit....as for oil changes, not sure why Ventrac is still on a 100hr oil change interval on LC engines, but its probably overkill for stationary use such as running a generator. With that said id still follow it unless your using an oil like shaeffers in conjunction with sampling to determine how far past 100 hrs the oil is still useable in your engine.FYI the oil change interval on my 05 Dixie chopper yanmar diesel is 250hrs,and the I interval on my caterpillar skid steers Perkins diesel is 500 hrs or once a yr.

I will defer to Jack to respond to your questions about oil-change intervals. I'm still wet behind the ears when it comes to such things.

As far as the proper crankshaft rotational speed when using the Ventrac HG150 generator is concerned, the Owner's Manual says:

Operating Procedure

Perform the daily inspection and disengage the power unit's weight transfer, if equipped.

Park the power unit and generator on a flat surface and set the power unit's parking brake.

Pull up on the generator's remote PTO switch to activate. With the power unit engine running between 2,000 and 2,500 RPM, engage the power unit's PTO switch. Adjust the throttle until the engine is running between 3,000 and 3,200 RPM and check the generator's voltmeter gauge. In order to get the proper voltage output the voltmeter gauge should read between 240-250 volts on the gauge with no load on the generator. The gauge should be checked periodically to make sure the generator is operating in the correct range. Under load the voltage may drop. If the voltage gauge reads low, increase the power unit's engine speed. If the gauge reads high, decrease the power unit's engine speed. Even though the voltmeter gauge reads 240-250 volts, the correct voltage is directed to each receptacle.

With best regards,

JJM

RD,
The required engine speed for a Steiner generator operating on a Ventrac is about the same as with the Ventrac generator. It is about 3100 rpm as I recall. For sure, it is not full engine throttle.

You would have to talk to Ventrac about why they specify 100 hour oil change intervals. I just follow their specs to the letter.

Thank you. As you know the Steiners use a 6 inch engine mounted pulley and Ventrac uses close to a 7 inch pulley, that's why I asked. I notice Ventrac attachments definitely run easier power wise, but a touch slower on a Steiner than Steiner attachments run on a Ventrac..if a Ventrac hits 120v/60hz at around 3100 with a Steiner generator, than on a Steiner it would likely need full throttle or real close
