I have a Vermeer 554xl. Ive baled with it since it was new. I hate the twine tieing system. there are so many adjustments to these balers just to get them to bale and tie right. ive been back to the dealership several times and keep getting the run around and what I should do. ive called Vermeer customer support and I get the same. several of the models come with what vermeer calls a accu-bale monitor. these work fine for a year or two then they go out. And guess what.. vermeer doesnt sell replacement monitors at the dealership. Ive made every adjustment known to man on my baler and its still not perfect but im able to deal with it. i can say that I can prolly roll 95 out of a 100 pretty uniform but thats cause ive ran it for years. If your not used to the baler you will pull your hair out trying to learn everything. I would stick with the JD. Its a much simpler baler to own and operate. plus customer support for them seems much better. Good Luck with whatever you go with though.

I have over 12000 bales on the monitor of this 2008 Vermeer Silage baler with very few problems. Also I don't see how a bale could get any tighter than what it bales. I pull it with either a Kubota M6800, Kubota M9000 or a Massey 285

The dealer updated my accu monitor to an expert monitor no charge year after bought it and he said could get the level indicator on the REBEL baler.Happy with my choice,would like to run the NH roll-belt 450 see how it compares cause that's the two was down too. Pockets wasn't deep enough for the new JD baler and wasn't going used

I should get my rd baler out of the shed on in a couple of days. I ran an experimental starter roll for JD long before they were introduced. After I had baled several 1000 bales I started having minor core starting problems and hay running up the front belts. I asked the JD representative from Ottumwa factory about welding on new style roller similar to how I was accustomed to doing on older style. He said he didn't know but he'd rather exchange my exp roller another exp roller so they could measure the wear on the 1st exp roller. He sent a tech from Iowa to exchange the rollers. After the experiment was over and I had starting problems I thought was starter roll related I started my own experiments of welding. I usually bale @ 15% or below moisture baling 3 nine foot swaths raked together and very rarely have to clean Coastal out of frt belts.
