Just a quick polling...we're looking at a JD Z915B with 60 inch deck that neighbor lady left her kids when she passed. They stored it with us as they live out of state, with the notion they'd retrieve it at a later date. It's been here several months so we pulsed the kids if they wanted to sell it, to which they responded yes but didn't set a price. I think they're wanting us to make an offer. I don't think they're really enthused with renting something to haul it back to their place half way across the country, let alone need such a large mower themselves. Their mom was special to us and we want to do right but not overpay.
I've no familiarity whatsoever with the EZ turn mowers, used value...etc. I suspect one or more of the blade spindle bearings is going out based on the rattling noise I hear when the PTO is engaged, but I haven't taken it apart. Hour meter shows 196 hours. Oil full and clean so somebody was watching that, but I doubt their mom understood importance of keeping those blade spindle bearings greased. Front tires have severe cracking on the sides, no doubt from setting around unused too long. They need replacing. I know their mom kept it in a shed out of the weather when not being used. I ran it with mower engaged yesterday for a short exercise to get a feel of operability. I've no idea as to year built or MSRP when sold, but while at the store on another matter, John Deere rep told me it probably originally sold for around $8500. He also said he liked the newer E model Kawasaki engine better than the Kohler engine that is in the B version. Is anyone aware of problems with Kohler engines? Any thoughts as to resonable used price or other things I should look for are welcome. Best..
